NEW DELHI: Ms. Sudha Murty, a renowned social worker from Karnataka, has been selected for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award. This award is one of the highest civilian awards in India and is given in recognition of exceptional and distinguished service in any field.
Ms. Murty is known for her philanthropic work and her efforts to improve the lives of underprivileged people in India. She has played a key role in establishing over 60,000 libraries in Karnataka and has handled 13 national disasters in the last 23 years. She is also a strong advocate for social causes and has traveled the world to raise awareness about these issues.
In addition to her philanthropic work, Ms. Murty is also a successful engineer and author. She graduated with a degree in engineering and later completed a ME from the Indian Institute of Science. She worked as an engineer for TELCO before becoming the chairperson of Infosys Foundation. She has written 30 books and 200 titles in English and Kannada, and has received seven honorary doctorates and multiple awards, including the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature and Padma Shri.
Ms. Murty believes in the power of generosity to change the world and is an inspiration to many. The Padma Bhushan award is a testament to her outstanding contributions to society and her commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others.
