Guwahati: Piramal Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Piramal Group, has had a significant impact on the lives of over one crore people in Assam. During a meeting with the Chief Minister of Assam, Shri. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati, Ajay Piramal, Chairman of Piramal Group, discussed the efforts made by the Foundation in the areas of education and healthcare in the state. The Chief Minister recognized the important work done by the Foundation during the Covid-19 pandemic and their ongoing efforts to reach more people in Assam.
During the pandemic, the Foundation launched three new initiatives: the Aspirational Districts Collaborative (ADC), Digital Bharat Collaborative (DBC), and Tribal Health Collaborative (THC). The ADC focuses on improving health, water, and education outcomes in seven aspirational districts, while the DBC is working to co-create an Assam-specific, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission-compliant comprehensive healthcare solution. The THC aims to improve the health outcomes of tribal people and achieve National Health Mission (NHM) goals.
The Foundation has a long-standing relationship with the state of Assam, and their efforts over the past 12 years have resulted in lasting impact. This includes strengthening 1,000 demo-schools as replicable models for holistic education, impacting over 60,000 students. The tele-health service Sarathi 104 responded to over 2 crore calls and was especially beneficial during the pandemic when physical travel was restricted. The healthcare records program Niramaya registered data of over 1 Lakh beneficiaries, and the Aashwasan campaign successfully screened 4.5 lakh people for Tuberculosis across 8 districts.
