Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education highlights the potential for Corporate India to support the growth of India’s North East region through CSR initiatives
NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh has urged the corporate sector to participate in the growth of India’s North East region, which he said is witnessing “a dawn of new hopes and opportunities.”
Singh said that Corporate India can play a significant role in unlocking the region’s economic potential through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He urged businesses to explore ways to collaborate with state governments to support the development of the northeast region.
CSR spending in India has increased in recent years, with corporate India contributing 28% of India’s total philanthropy expenditure, which equates to roughly Rs 17,000 crores in 2020. Singh said that this spending, if well-aligned with national development priorities, can have a positive impact on society and support the government’s efforts.
He added that corporate India, with its exposure to grassroots communities, has a deep understanding of what is needed for the country to keep growing, and can make a more effective contribution to all sectors of the economy through its CSR initiatives.
The minister has urged the corporate sector to join the growth of India’s North East region, which he said is experiencing “a dawn of new hopes and opportunities.” Singh suggested that businesses explore ways to collaborate with state governments and use their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to support the development of the region.
