CSR: Hyundai Motor India Foundation by ‘Gurugram Kala-Utsav’

Exhibitors have been carefully chosen for their contribution to environment conservation, waste management and upcycling, reviving traditional art and providing employment

  • Hyundai Motor India Foundation collaborates with Haryana State CSR Trust, Gurugram District Administration, MCG and KalaGram Society to provide exposure to small artisans and performers
  • Endeavours to positively impact livelihoods of 1000+ people including rural women, folk and tribal artists, Person with Disabilities (PWDs), NGOs, local youth, and -social enterprises
  • Inauguration of art gallery within an exhibition themed ‘Back to Roots’, with  25 + exhibitors,
  • Photography competition on the theme ‘Crafts of India’ open for Gurugram residents along with workshops, performances, and competitions featuring various art forms from October 12- 16, 2022

Mumbai: Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) inaugurated the ‘Kala-Utsav’, providing little known artisans, crafters and performers an opportunity to showcase their wares at MCG Amphitheatre, Sector 29 Gurugram. The fest was inaugurated by Smt. Madhu Azad, Mayor, Gurugram and Mr. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram along with other government dignitaries. The five-day fest will culminate on October 16th 2022.

Commenting at the inauguration, Puneet Anand, AVP & Group Head, Corporate Affairs, HMIL, said “Hyundai Motor India Foundation has been actively supporting the cause of artists and artisans of various genres guided by our global vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’. We aim to provide a distinct platform to artists and small businesses to exhibit and monetise their talent by providing them a level playing field, as a part of our CSR initiatives. The Artisan Fest is one of our multiple art CSR initiatives to support crafters and performers. This is our second edition, where we have partnered with Haryana State CSR Trust, District Administration and MCG KalaGram to make the fest more inclusive.

I am happy to share that our participants from last year have come back with renewed enthusiasm for the second edition and I am certain that we will carry on the zealous spirit of the fest through the second edition of the fest as well.”

Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram, said “As a culturally rich state, this is home to many artists and artisans. The Kala-Utsav by KalaGram Society, will definitely boost this culture further and make Gurugram a hub for all art enthusiasts to converge. We are glad to partner with Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) who came forward to organise this 5-day long fest.”

The five-day fest will have 25 exhibitor booths, in addition to an art exhibition based on the theme “Back to Roots” featuring works of upcoming artists. The fest will also have workshops on Pottery, Graffiti Painting, Madhubani Painting, Gond Painting, Sustainable and upcycled Crafts, Kalighat Painting, Calligraphy, Screen Printing, block Printing etc, which is open to public and students for a nominal fee.

Visitors can also experience diverse cultural performances like artist’s Bhopa Bhopi from Churu Rajasthan, Haryanvi instrumental musicians, folk storytellers from Himachal and Haryana, music and theatre, Puppet Show, Haryanvi Folk Dance and Instruments, Himachal Folklores, Nukkad Natak by Gurujal Society, and dance performances. A photography competition for budding photographers on the theme “Crafts of India” will allow them to capture our rich heritage to through their contemporary lens.

Exhibitors have been carefully chosen for their contribution to environment conservation, waste management and upcycling, reviving traditional art and providing employment to the marginalised including rural women, tribal artists, jail inmates, Person with Disabilities (PWDs), NGOs, local youth, and folk artists.

Some of the organizations exhibiting amongst the 25 exhibitors are:

  1. Action Centre for Transformation, Paperwings, manufacturer of eco-friendly diyas, notebooks & décor using waste paper by rural women crafters of Haryana
  2. Clothes Box, Foundation that trains and employs women from underprivileged background to upcycle old clothes and garment industry waste
  3. Jaggery bags, zero waste initiative, that works with car seat belts, ex-army canvas, waste from aviation industry, cargo belts with more crafted materials like Cane weaving, Pattu and Kantha
  4. Astitva Trust, Gurugram, an NGO creating designer products through upcycling
  5. HWSPSHI, Haryana Welfare Society for Persons with Speech & Hearing Impairment (HWSPSHI) for selling works of PWDs trained by them
  6. The Street Art, Group of young artists from Gurugram to show handmade paintings, drawings, sculptures
  7. Kahani Ki Dukaan Foundation, an NGO working with rural women self-help groups from Gunehar, Himachal Pradesh
  8. Avacayam – the “Go Natural’ initiative of Society for Child Development disability livelihood program around waste management
  9. Gond artist Naresh Shyam, Patua artist Sahajan Chitrakar, Kalighat painter Jaydev Chitrakar and Mithila painting artist Pradyuman Kumar and Pushpa Kumari will also be a part of the exhibitors
