Under the project in 2022, the Government Higher Secondary School in the village Ratanpura of Bansur block of Alwar was transformed
Alwar (India CSR): With one-seventh of the world’s population, a majority of whom are dependent on agriculture, sustained growth of agriculture and allied activities become of utmost importance. For farmers to maximize their crop productivity and better manage soil health, the ‘Krishi Jyoti’ Project, a partnership of Mosaic India and S M Sehgal Foundation was started in 2008 from two villages in district Nuh, Haryana and expanded to include not just agriculture, but water management and education themes as well to make it an integrated development project. To this day, the project has completed 14 years and continues, reaching communities across 155 villages in Nuh, Alwar, and Prayagraj districts of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, respectively.
Under the project in 2022, the Government Higher Secondary School in the village Ratanpura of Bansur block of Alwar was transformed. Upon the successful completion of the school, a village-level event was organized for the school’s inauguration. In addition, a check dam constructed in the year 2020-21 in the village of Sabalpura was also handed over to the community.
School teachers and children, parents and members of Panchayat, School Management Committee and Village Development Committee participated and expressed their happiness for the school and watershed structure, along with representatives of S M Sehgal Foundation and Mosaic India.
Robin Edwin, Country Head and Managing Director, Mosaic India Foundation, expressed happiness on seeing a large number of women present at the event and said that “Women’s eagerness and involvement in children’s education is a sign that is conscious about the education of children.”
Jay Sehgal, Trustee, S M Sehgal Foundation thanked Mosaic India for their support of the long-term partnership and the villagers for participating in the event. He appreciated the integrated work done under the project in the domains of agriculture, water management and education. The program was also attended by Ben Pratt, Senior Vice President, Mosaic India Pvt Ltd and Shashikant Bhende, Country Agronomist.
Anjali Makhija, Trustee and Chief Executive Officer, S M Sehgal Foundation said, “Our aim of transforming the school is to bring about a positive change in schools in rural India so that children can get a better and safe learning environment to study.”
Under the project, several improvements have been made in the school which includes the provision of separate toilets for girls and boys in school, renovation of rooms and kitchen and drinking water facility. Along with leveling the land, footpath, tree plantation and beautification of the campus, the whitewashing of the school building, and many slogans of educational messages on the walls have been written on the school premises to encourage the children.
Seeing the safe and proper environment in the school, a new zeal and enthusiasm have been seen in the village and the school administration hopes it will lead to increased enrolment. Village development committees formed will maintain the check dam structure. Along with the members of the committee, the villagers have also been given information about the maintenance and use of the structure through training.
