RAMPURA AGUCHA ( Rajasthan): Improvement of livestock breed through artificial insemination is a modern tool for farmers’ prosperity & empowerment. Artificial insemination of the local and high yielding species will help increase local milk production.
Realizing the importance of livestock Rampura Agucha Mine, a unit of Hindustan Zinc Limited has undertaken Breed improvement programme on PPP model. Artificial insemination programme is implemented in collaboration with District Veterinary Department. There are at present about 14 Hospital/Sub centers in Hurda & Shahpura Block providing services to the farmers in region covering 22 panchayat of Hurda and Shahpura tehsil. Through these center more than 7000 AI were done annually.

CSR team of Rampura Agucha Mine also working to sensitize the farmer to adopt the AI.
Indigenous cows are artificially inseminated by semen of Gir breed & Holstein breed which is the world’s highest production dairy animal and buffaloes are artificially inseminated by semen of Murrah breed. Conception rate for AI is 55% in cows and little lower in buffaloes.
More than 500 cross breed calves were born after Artificial Insemination in this region. Besides this HZL also providing framers training, fodder demonstration programme, 100% vaccination in to animals, Menger construction, Insurance of cross bred cattle and regular cattle camp with District Veterinary department. Mortality rate and seasoned specific disease is not occurring since 2 years because of regular intervention.
Animals born through artificial insemination can yield up to 10 to 15 liters of milk per day as against the local average milk yield of 2-5 liters. Likewise indigenous cow breeds have comparatively short lactation period 6 months as against the cross bred cows which has lactation period of 15 months. Improvement in per animal productivity through artificial insemination will not only increase farmers’ income but will also help in raising the area as a livestock rich region and meeting the rising demand of milk in the country .
