Gurugram (India CSR): M3M Foundation today signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gurgaon District Administration and DAIS (Diversity Awareness Initiative for Students) to support the implementation of Model UN programme in the city. Model United Nations (MUN) programme aspires to develop the best of real-life abilities in the participants, including diplomacy, effective communication, negotiation and oratory skills by identifying the best solution to many complex issues that impact the humanity.

Nishant Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram said “This collaboration will lead to the organizing of the first ever Model United Nations (MUN) in government schools of the district. It will also help in inculcating oratory skills, confidence and leadership in students (participants) along with improving their exposure to global affairs and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

Dr. Payal Kanodia, Trustee, M3M Foundation said “The students of government schools will be significantly impacted by the Model UN programme whenever it is implemented in Gurugram. The programme will boost student’s educational levels while also improving their abilities in different fields”.

MOU was signed by Vishram Kumar Meena ADC, Gurugram, Dr. Aishwarya Mahajan, President of M3M Foundation and Keshav Gupta from DIAS in the presence of Nishant Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram and Dr. Kanodia, Trustee, M3M Foundation.

MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries. With each participant representing a country, they discuss the real-world issues that humanity now faces; and strive to solve them using the policies and perspectives of their respective nation.

One hundred twenty three students from across 12 government schools in the district have been selected based on their aptitude and interest in public speaking and social science. These students have received an orientation to the functioning of the UN and the role of delegates. They have also been familiarized with the concept of MUNs and have participated in mock speeches on the agenda decided for the MUN.

The Gurugram Model United Nations Program aims to teach students in government schools in the Gurugram District about the UN, how it functions, and how decisions are made there. The program includes developing skills and knowledge with students and teachers from government schools in Gurugram through guides, interactive workshops and Model UN conferences along with feedback sessions and virtual discussions with students in the 14 – 17 years age range. The program also intends to use Model UN as a platform for discussion and raising awareness of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. This program specifically creates a focus on issues and themes under SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality & SDG 13: Climate Action with the students.
