United Way of Baroda and Jan Priya Trust: Advanced Computer Laboratory to provide an access to quality education to underprivileged students

United Way of Baroda has been devoutly making efforts to improve the access to quality education to the students belonging to the less privileged section of the society.

When talking about India, one of the fastest developing nation globally is still facing the lowest literacy rate that is 74.04% in the year 2021. Nation still lags behind the average literacy rate which is 86.3%. The access to quality education does not to reach till the lower strata of the society.

United Way of Baroda has been devoutly making efforts to improve the access to quality education to the students belonging to the less privileged section of the society. Various projects are being implemented through which access to education should be strengthen so that marginalised students can easily access to the quality education.

Taking this into account, United Way of Baroda established an Advanced Computer Laboratory at Government school of Vadodara in October, 2021 with the joint support from Jan Priya Trust (JPT). The Computer Laboratory is equipped with 10 Advanced HP Computers with latest processor, Windows 10, MS Office, and other Computer peripherals which were installed in the school. The system has both Microsoft as well as Linux system installed. An additional server has been installed which has complete educational software kit along with audio-visual lectures and 24×7 remote support.

Child friendly complete furniture with platforms, chair, Air Conditioning system, and electrical work with 4 ELCBs were mounted for utmost safety of the students. Also, a whiteboard to avoid certain virtual concept learning, computer covers to keep the computers clean, and HP headphones to attend audio/videos were also provided for the students. This project will cater to more than 450+ students of the school.

Along with this, training sessions for the teachers were also organised in order to make them well equipped and also could face the challenges arise during the lectures. Training sessions were conducted to have hands on My sCool Server and Coding without Computers. Also, an Advanced training from IIT Mumbai will be arranged focussing on specific teachers and students for subject related software for the whole school throughout the year.

The inauguration was done by Madhavi Agrawal- Chairperson (Jan Priya Trust), and Dr. Binita Verdia – Chief Executive Officer (United Way of Baroda), Dharmendrasinh Chudasama- Administrative Officer (NPSS) along with Dhaval Patel- Principal (Maa Bharti School).

Madhavi Agrawal – Chairperson (JPT) shared that they are excited to be a part of United Way of Baroda initiative to excel underprivileged students on digital technology. She emphasized that this lab will provide hands on computer and education software’s to the government students and provide an opportunity to succeed in life and fulfil the dreams of their parents.

Dharmendrasinh Chudasama- AO, NPSS conveyed his heartfelt gratitude towards United Way of Baroda and Jan Priya Trust for establishing such a useful advanced Computer Laboratory for their under privileged students and teachers. He shared that this lab is the first lab in all 104 government schools of Vadodara. He assured that the lab will be maintained and used thoroughly to enrich students. A computer learning schedule will be made and school Principal will ensure it is followed on regular basis.
