NOAMUNDI: Promoting sports as a way of life in its areas of operation, Tata Steel’s Noamundi Run-a-thon is going to get bigger and better this year. The run-a-thon being organised at Noamundi Sports Complex on October 28, 2018 (Sunday) will witness runners from all over the country.
Taking cue from the environmental initiatives that Tata Steel is taking along with International Union of Nature Conservation (IUCN, India), Noamundi Run-a-thon is yet another way in which the company pays tribute to the flora and fauna of the region. Running for biodiversity, this year the idea is to simplify the concept of sustainability and biodiversity to people of the community.
More than 4800 people have registered and will be running under different categories. Runner from 10 states namely Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand will join hands to run for the green cover and clean energy.
As a symbol of unity and diversity, a special 2 KM race for Persons with Disabilities (PwD’s) will also be organised. This year more than 70 PwD’s are expected to participate in the run.
Thrilled about participating, first time runner Siripuram from Telangana said, “Early morning physical training at the workplace has helped me get better, focused and healthier. Physical activity is a part of our routine now. I saw the ad for Noamundi Run-a-thon online and was excited to be a part of it. Motivated by marathon runners, I felt this is my calling. I will be running at Naomundi for biodiversity for the first time.”
Taking forward its environmental initiatives, Tata Steel aims to build a better tomorrow by organising full-filled mega community events promoting and educating the next generation on the importance of biodiversity.
