KORBA :  The CSR Head of communications at Vedanta Group, Mrs Roma Balwani recently inaugurated a cloth shop at Bhatgaon of Korba,Chattisgarh  under the aegis of Balco-Nabarad run watershed women empowerment project. during her visit to the village Mrs Balawani said  “With the cooperation of Balco there has been lot of progress in the last five decades. Community development programmes have been well  participated in by the local residents and with the joint efforts of Balco Management and the people, progress has donned a new look. We should all keep moving ahead with each others help. Vedanta Group is committed to implement development programmes by joining hands with the local residents”.

A colorful programme was organized to mark the visit of Mrs. Balwani. The programme saw the presence of many NGOs, members of Gram Panchayats, officers of Nabard, Agricultural, Technology and Health Departments. Mrs. Balwani expressed her joy on the fact that the Companies under the Vedanta Group have successfully been able to raise the living standard of people through their Community Development Programmes. Mrs. Balwani said that every single Project of Vedanta group has a purpose to help the local residents in every possible way and to help them to keep moving ahead in life.

She also was hopeful that with the joint efforts of Balco and the local residents it would help both to move ahead and make continuous progress. Mrs. Balwani gave her good wishes for a bright future to all present in the function. Shri Avinash Chand Rai, COO, Balco expressed his pleasure to see the presence of so many residents who were connected with different projects. In his address Avinash Ji said that with the progress of Balco the local area’s development will keep getting a fillip. He further went on to say that it is Balco’s endeavour to change the lives of the local residents in a positive way and to strengthen the mutual relations with them. He also said that the cooperation of local people is very essential for progress to happen.

Dr. P.R.Kumbhkar, Chief Medical Officer, Korba said that Balco has an influential role to play in the development of the area. He shared that he knows Balco since the past four decades. The progress of Balco and local people over the last five decades is palpable. Shri Kumbhkar also said that in the area of community development, Balco is certainly the best. Mrs. Meera Shukla, Chief-M.S.S.V.P, an NGO, said that Balco has crafted a very nice image of itself in the minds of the residents in its operational areas by the help of its different community development programmes. The local residents are all praise for the high quality work done in different camps organized by Balco like Jaipur Foot Camp, Eye Camp etc.

Mr. B.K.Sriwastwa, Head-Community Relations, Balco said that as a result of the community development projects, a continuous improvement in the standard of living of the local residents has been seen. The youth have become self-dependent by joining the Vedanta I.L& F.S. Skill School and learning different commercial trades. Mamta Project has created awareness in the people about the importance of mother and child health. Residents of 66 villages have benefitted from the Chuiya Vedanta Rural Medical Dispensary where primary medical facilities of excellent quality are being provided.

This has also helped the local residents to stay away from the gimmicks of inexperienced people who claim to provide medical relief in rural areas. Again nearly 40,000 children from Sarguja and Korba Districts are getting nutritious mid-day meals prepared at Vedanta Centralised Kitchens. The ‘Jalgram’ and ‘Watershed’ projects have encouraged the farmers to embrace modern farming technology. In the last 50 years, Balco has earned the goodwill and confidence of people in its operational areas by its wonderful work.

On this occasion a colorful variety cultural programme was presented by children,women and men from Bal Niketan being run by Balco, Jalgram and Unnati Projects and I.L. & F.S. Skills School. Apart from Mrs Balwani and Mr. Avinash Rai, the programme seen presence of large no  audience. Col. D.S. Bhati, GM-Administration, Mrs Rina Sriwastwa, Head-IT, Mrs. Rajesh Mishra, AGM-Mines, Mr. B. Sivakumar, Head-HSE, Mr. Neeraj Trivedi, AGM-540 MW Power Plant, Mrs Vineeta Rai, Office Bearer-Balco Ladies Club and many members of the club were present at the function. The programme was anchored by Mr. Ashish Ranjan, AGM-Community Development.
