World Youth Skills Day 2020 has a challenging context. The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown measures have led to the worldwide closure of technical and vocational education and training institutions, threatening the continuity of skills development.
In the challenging context of COVID, it is even more important to develop Skills for a Resilient Youth, which is also the theme for WYSD 2020. During the difficult times of Covid19 lockdown, youth are facing unemployment, job loss, and other uncertainties concerning their future. Often youth are not able to handle these challenges and get stressed and depressed. They even get suicidal tendencies and start substance abuse etc., which can ruin their life forever. YOGA can be an effective TOOL to overcome their life and work challenges. Yoga is the ancient Indian system, given to us by our Rishis that connects the mind and body. It is a prescribed set of exercises and techniques that balance the mental and physical state of our bodies, bringing them to health and harmony.
AROH Foundation organized a webinar “YOGA for a Resilient Youth” on 15th July 2020 on the occasionof “World Youth Skills Day” to introduce and demonstrate simple Yoga Practices for Relaxation, Removing Stress, Boosting Immunity& Building Physical Harmony.
MrNihalRustgi (Marketing & Partnerships Expert at NSDC) moderated the Webinar, which brought together renowned Yoga Guru,Dr Ravi Yogi and DrNeelam Gupta (Founder, AROH Foundation)to share their insights on how the ancient philosophy of Yoga can help in leading a healthy, happy and stress-free life and how mental health leads to healthy life.Dr Yogitook a practical session to show some easy Yoga Asanas which can help youth in maintaining their mental and physical health and wellbeing. Dr Gupta &MrRustgiguided the participants on how to deal with escalating issues of depression, loneliness, anxiety and stress during caused due to job loss, unemployment and boost their immunity and holistic well-being through Yoga.
The question answer session further nurtured the audience to deal with physical and mental obstacles in leading a healthy life through yoga and mental wellness. Adding icing to the cake, all participants were also provided with a participation certificate at the end of the webinar.
Closing the webinar and thanking the guests and participants, DrNeelam said “Yoga is an invaluable tool in our hands to keep our physical and mental balance and health. Armed with yoga and meditation, sailing through turbulent times is as easy as doing some simple yogasanas for 15 minutes and sitting calmly for another 15 minutes. 30 minutes devoted from daily routine can help youth in live a balanced, healthy and stress-free life. During COVID affected times, YOGA acts as both, preventive and promotive healthcare system with no side effects”. I suggest that every young boy or girl must adopt Yoga as a part and parcel of their lives, just like having breakfast”.
