MUMBAI: Wockhardt Foundation is organizing a special lecture by Nobel Peace Laureate & Founder of Grameen Bank Prof Muhammad Yunus to deliver a special lecture on the theme of Social Business.
This lecture will be delivered by Prof Yunus on June 28, 2011 through Live Video Conference to students of over 20 Management Institutes across India. Among the major institutes who will be linked through the Live VC are five of India’s top Management Institutes v.i.z. Symbiosis Management Institute Pune, ISB Hyderabad, Great Lakes Chennai, Narsee Monjee Mumbai and Shree Ramachandra Medical University, Chennai.
Wockhardt Foundation and The Yunus Centre in Bangladesh along with The Higher Education Forum in India are jointly organizing this special lecture for students and academicians all over the country.
Wockhardt Foundation is a national, secular, not for profit organization engaged in social service & human welfare activities. Wockhardt Foundation subscribes to the philosophy of “Service to man is Service to God.
The special lecture by Prof Yunus will be based on the concept, principles and foundation of Social Business as a primary method of easing poverty. The lecture session will inspire and encourage the youth to bring about radical changes in the society through new innovative ideas. A new breed of Social Entrepreneurs from the developing world will become game changers and will face the world in a completely new light.
Wockhardt Foundation aims to ensure maximum outreach for this lecture. It has tied-up with TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) as one of its partners besides roping in MBAUniverse.com who will leverage its digital infrastructure to webcast the sessions LIVE on www.mbauniverse.com for all its members. The reach of this special lecture would be so massive that over 10000 students across the length and breadth of India will benefit from Prof Yunus’ advice and direction.
As part of this special programme, the students from the participating institutes will also get to interact with Prof Yunus on poverty as a critical issue that needs immediate attention while moving towards economic and social growth.
During his lecture, Prof Yunus will touch upon on how the business objective across the companies is to overcome poverty or one or more problems such as education, health, technology access that threaten people and society – not profit maximizing!
According to Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, CEO & Inspiration, Wockhardt Foundation, “Social business has assumed great significance in today’s time. This is a cause-driven business where the purpose of investment is purely to achieve one or more social objectives through the operation of the company. We believe that the involvement of these key Institutions will further promote the objective of Social Business in India.”
Prof Yunus founded the Grameen Bank for the purpose of lending money (micro-credits) to people who otherwise do not have access to capital. The Grameen Bank grew and became a great success and enabled an enormous number of people to get out of poverty. Apart from Prof Yunus beliefs, it’s his vision that could only push the economy further. Prof Yunus also believes that the economic system in which we live does not create enough opportunities for the poor. And that’s exactly what he would want to educate the students and academicians of India.
