JHARSUGUDA: ‘Vedanta Vidyarthi Vikas Yojana’ (VVVY), an educational project by Vedanta Limited, Jharsuguda achieved its highest passing percentage of 92% this year, as against 75% in the previous year, for 100 students who appeared in the HSC (High School Certificate) exam.

The passing students comprised of 60% girl students. Nikhil Chaudhury, a student from VVVY’s Purna centre topped the list with 81% marks and he credited his success to the teachers of VVVY project and the support of his parents.

“In an area where only three children could hardly pass high school in the year 2008, this effort has led to hundreds of children achieving their success,” said Dr.Rajeev Nayan, Head Business HR of Vedanta, Jharsuguda expressing his elation.

The inclusion of the gradation system and the new exam pattern in the matric exam from previous year, made it difficult for the students to be acquainted with the new format and VVVY’s tutorial assistance helped the students. This year 22 students passed with more than 60% marks and 70 students passed with lower grades.

The VVVY programme was initiated by Vedanta since 2010 in its ten core peripheral villages with an objective to improve the quality of the education, moral standards and reduce the dropout rate of the secondary school students by providing supplementary and remedial teaching. The average passing percentage of the last 6 years of the VVVY project is 78%, indicating the success in transforming a result, which was just 18% before the inception of the project. Till date the cumulative beneficiaries who have been successfully passed out in the matriculation exam is 626 out of 832.

Moral and life-skill education for character building has also been an important parameter of the project, to prepare the child for facing the social hurdles of life. The project has been running with one of the best educational NGO experts, AJKA by formulating quality parameter and indicators with specialised systematic Class module.
