JHARSUGUDA: Vedanta’s Sesa Sterlite Jharsuguda business unit inaugurated a tailoring training centre on 25th March 2015 at village Gudigaon under its livelihood initiative, the ‘Vedanta Integrated Jana Jivika Yojana’.
The training centre is established with a primary objective of empowering rural women with creating self-employment opportunities. In the first phase, 20 girls from the Subhalaxmi Cooperative enrolled.They will undergo five months of training, where they will learn drafting and stitching with different materials.
The women members of the Subhalaxmi Cooperative society promoted by Vedanta will benefit from this initiative as it creates an alternate income generating opportunity for them. This is the eighth tailoring centre which will be operational for the next five months. The total number of beneficiaries is now more than 150 rural women, for this capacity building initiative.
The centre was inaugurated by women employees of Vedanta, Ms. Shrabani Mohanty, Manasi Verma and Ms. Asmita Swain in the presence of Shrimati. Binodini Patel, Chairman, Kolabira Block, Board of Directors of Subhalaxmi and Shri. Nishant Kumar, Manager CSR, Vedanta Jharsuguda along with employees from the company.
Shrimati. Binodini Patel lauded the initiation of this initiative and requested the participants of the tailoring programme, to harness the opportunity. She also mentioned that this could provide an opportunity to the women of Gudigaon to earn their livelihood after learning tailoring skills.
