LANJIGARH (Odisha): Vedanta Lanjigarh on August 19, aunched its umbrella distribution program among the students of rural government schools near its plant periphery besides sensitizing them on cleanliness, vector-borne disease prevention and other monsoon related health issues.
Present on the occasion were Surya Narayan Dash, Sub-Collector – Kalahandi; Bimalananda Senapati, COO, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh; Sanjeev Kumar Nayak, BEO, Lanjigarh; Jalaj Malpani, CFO, Vedanta Lanjigarh and Gopabandhu Prusty, Headmaster, Govt. nodal U.P. school, Lanjigarh among other dignitaries. Approximately 3000 students will directly get benefitted out of this programme.
Addressing the students and teachers in the inaugural function, Bimalananda Senapati emphasized on the values of education. He urged upon all to take preventive measures during the monsoons for good health and motivated the little ones to remain focused on studies as it is the only way to secure a good future. Since most of the students in rural areas come from very poor family background the magnitude of positive impact out of this programme will be large, he opined.
Surya Narayan Dash, Sub-Collector – Kalahandi said that right to education commensurate with facilitating and creating right means and environment for the young children.
Speaking about the programme as rather very unique, Shivanand Mohanty, Head PR & Corp. Comm., Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh said that an umbrella brings with it huge benefits having multiplying effect. On one hand it will directly help in reducing students class absenteeism seen mostly during monsoons because of frequent health problems caused due to drenching in rains and on the other it will help in huge financial savings for the families on account of medical expenses coming down. While regularity to school will improve student’s year end performance, an umbrella will always be used by other family members when the student is back at home, he added.
Among others, present during the occasion were senior officials of Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh, Ranjan Sharma, Manoj Satapathy, Dr. Akshaya Sahoo, Rajeev Ranjan, CSR, PR & Health officials and teaching staff of the school.
