JAMSHEDPUR: To improve the quality of the existing sewing classes, Urban Services, Tata Steel partnered with USHA International to organize a two-day training programme on 4-5 January, 2012, at Bhalubasa Community Centre to train teachers and help them develop their sewing skills.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of international professional faculties from USHA. Around 25 teachers, including a few from TSRDS, attended this programme.
The programme included a detailed theoretical and practical training. Ms Sunita Jaiswal, Director, USHA International was also present for this programme.
Urban Services, Tata Steel aims at uplifting and giving equal status to the women of the bustees through various ‘Women Empowerment” activities like sewing and stitching, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, mehendi rachna,, zari work, beautician, fabric painting, etc.
Sewing and stitching classes are being run through 12 community centres of Urban Services, Tata Steel through which more than 700 women are trained every year.
