Learn essential tactics to encourage teachers to integrate Technology for Education into their teaching strategies, fostering innovative and enriched learning experiences.

Resistance to innovation is a natural phenomenon that can negatively affect human beings. This has been observed at all times when something new appears. Practice shows that the faster a person adapts to change, the higher their chances of success. Teachers, on the other hand, should get over technophobia and improve their teaching methods.

Through years many technologies appeared. The graphite pencil, for example, did not become available to students until some time later. Previously, they were too expensive for universal use. Joseph Dixon, founder of Dixon Ticonderoga, wanted to solve this problem by proposing a new pencil technology. Thanks to the equipment, 132 pencils with rubbers were born every minute, so their cost became more affordable. Each year their number only increased, but at that time were in no hurry to use such pencils. Their main fear was carelessness because of such a pencil, but time has shown that their thoughts were vain and untrue. Pencils did not become a universal practice until 1939. This happened after the famous tests at the University of Iowa.

Resistance to innovation only costs you time that can be spent accelerating your academic success. This applies to representatives of different professions, teachers, and students. College students actively use various benefits of technology, and the Internet is among them. They seek and find help with the tasks like write my essay, complex math assignments, rare educational materials, etc. In this regard, it is worth considering how to resolve the issue of teachers’ resistance to modern technologies. We suggest to discuss this topic further.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Training
  • 2. Do not forget about motivation
  • 3. Demonstrate real evidence of technology effectiveness
  • 4. Note the consensus
  • 5. Convincing teachers can be done in a variety of ways

***

1. Training

Without training, it is extremely difficult to master new technologies. You need to provide the necessary knowledge on innovation, but first, explain what benefits the new skills will provide. Schools are undergoing a digital transformation, so teachers need to keep up with trends to stay ahead of the times. With the right support, each specialist will be able to adapt to realities and bring more benefits to their students in the future.

As far as training is concerned, you can even use the online format. It is also popular to combine online and offline training, but you can observe which option is more effective.

Gradually, the world is moving towards having representatives of the digital profession in schools who will support technology implementation in educational institutions. Such expenses are justified because they will bring enormous benefits. Qualified personnel will share knowledge so that work will take place in a regularly developing society.

2. Do not forget about motivation

Motivation always reflects favorably on performance and results. By using different methods of encouragement, teachers can be trained more quickly in modern technology. Change should be encouraged and supported but certainly not forced. Gentle teaching methods are always more effective. Teachers always come up with different methods to approach different students, and university principals need to come up with the same, only for teachers with a skeptical attitude. The most common method is financial incentives in the form of bonuses or salary increases. In addition, free training, extra vacation, etc., can be offered.

You can especially raise the importance of achievement by giving them an award publicly. If your institution has not yet implemented such activities, you can test their effectiveness.

***

3. Demonstrate real evidence of technology effectiveness

Teachers may not embrace something new until they are shown the true benefits of the innovation. It is impossible to argue with the real facts of improving the learning process with the help of technology. Teachers may be interested in this when they see how their colleagues are already taking advantage of digitalization and moving up the career ladder faster. Therefore, another option to convince them is to show real success stories of other people. Plus, through the example of other teachers, they will be able to gain more opportunities and insight into the use of technology.

***

4. Note the consensus

It is necessary for the whole faculty environment to be interested in technology. In this way, the university will have a better chance to develop and move towards innovation. If only one teacher is in favor of, for example, the use of electronic diaries and all the others are against it, the modern teacher will not be able to fight against the majority. In such moments, the management of the institution should support those who are in favor of the future.

Lack of consensus is harmful, so supervisors must intervene in the life of the faculty. It is also worth understanding the difference between positive and negative consensus. The first step is to define the problem, and then choose among several options for resolving the issue.

5. Convincing teachers can be done in a variety of ways

You have to be comfortable with teachers’ skepticism and be able to work with it. This is expected because they have been working on a certain program for a long time, and it is always difficult to switch to something new. Moreover, the training tools that are being introduced may seem impossible to them at the first stage, so they need to be persuaded otherwise without undue pressure. Above, we have listed some methods of influencing the opinion of teachers that can be used in practice.

Either way, you need to take your time and realize that innovation and implementation take resources. Be patient and act as gently, tolerantly, and carefully as possible, finding an individualized approach. Each teacher is unique, so they will need different resources and methods of engagement to achieve the desired results. All changes need to be accompanied by positivity. So, apply proper training and incentives to give the right push. When teachers realize the benefits, they will become even more interested and start gradually applying new technologies in teaching students.
