Tata WPL 2024: The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is a women’s franchise Twenty20 cricket league organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is the female cricketers’ equivalent to the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is also sponsored by Tata. The WPL aims to provide a platform for the best women cricketers in the country and abroad to showcase their skills and talent.

Tata WPL 2024: Format and Schedule

The WPL 2024 will follow the same format as the IPL, with each team playing every other team twice in a home-and-away, double round-robin format. The top three teams will qualify for the playoffs, where the team with the highest points will directly enter the final, while the second and third-placed teams will play an eliminator match to decide the other finalist.

Tata WPL 2024: Teams and Squads

The WPL 2024 will feature five teams, namely Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz. Each team has retained 12 players from the previous season and has added four new players through a mini-auction held on January 15, 2024.

  • Smriti Mandhana: The captain of Mumbai Indians and the leading run-scorer of the WPL 2023, Smriti Mandhana is one of the most explosive and elegant batters in the world. She has the ability to score big runs and dominate any bowling attack with her range of shots and timing. She will be looking to lead her team to their second title in a row.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur: The captain of Delhi Capitals and the most valuable player of the WPL 2023, Harmanpreet Kaur is a powerful and aggressive all-rounder who can change the course of the game with her bat or ball. She has the experience and the temperament to handle pressure situations and guide her team to victory. She will be aiming to win her first WPL trophy as a captain.
  • Shafali Verma: The star opener of Royal Challengers Bangalore and the highest six-hitter of the WPL 2023, Shafali Verma is a fearless and flamboyant batter who can take on any bowler and hit them out of the park. She has the knack of giving her team a flying start and setting up big totals. She will be hoping to continue her form and help her team reach the playoffs.
  • Jhulan Goswami: The veteran pacer of UP Warriors and the leading wicket-taker of the WPL 2023, Jhulan Goswami is a legend of the game who can bowl with pace, swing, and accuracy. She has the skill and the experience to trouble any batter and take crucial wickets. She will be looking to inspire her team to improve their performance and challenge the other teams.
  • Sophie Devine: The captain and the marquee player of Gujarat Giants and the most consistent performer of the WPL 2023, Sophie Devine is a brilliant and versatile all-rounder who can bat, bowl, and field exceptionally well. She has the leadership and the charisma to motivate her team and lead by example. She will be aiming to take her team to the final and win their maiden WPL title.

Tata WPL 2024: Broadcasting and Live Streaming

The WPL 2024 will be broadcasted live on Sports18, the official TV broadcaster of the tournament. The matches will also be streamed live on Jio Cinema, the official digital partner of the WPL.

  • In India, you can watch the matches for free on the Jio Cinema app or website, with commentary in five languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu. You can also watch the matches on Sports18 on the following channels: Sports18 – 1 + Sports18 – 1 HD + Sports18 Khel. 
  • In the United Kingdom, you can watch the matches on Sky Sports Cricket or Sky Go, with commentary in English.
  • In Australia, you can watch the matches on Fox Sports or Fox Cricket HD, with commentary in English.
  • In the United States, you can watch the matches on Willow, with commentary in English.
  • In South Africa, you can watch the matches on SuperSport, with commentary in English.

Tata WPL 2024: Official Car

The Tata Punch EV, the first all-electric car from Tata to be based on the Acti.EV platform, has become the official car of the WPL 2024. The Punch EV comes with two battery pack options – Medium Range and Long Range – and supports multiple charging options. The Punch EV also comes with features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, cruise control, and an air purifier. The safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control (ESC), and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. The Tata Punch EV is priced between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
