More than 5000 runners came together in Vijayawada for Swachhathon 2026 at Indira Gandhi Stadium on October 2, 2026. Swachh Andhra Corporation organised the event in association with Amaravati Runners. The event brought together all the runners from different age groups to promote an active lifestyle and the importance of cleanliness for a sustainable environment. The event offered an opportunity to take part in a community-oriented running programme by carrying out the message of cleanliness and a healthier environment.
The event had 3 different race categories – Half Marathon, 10K Run and 5K Run and allowing participants to take their challenge based on their fitness levels. The Half Marathon was open to participants aged 16 years and above, while the 10K welcomed runners aged 14 years and above. The 5K category was open to participants aged 10 years and above. The Half Marathon had a cut-off time of three hours and 30 minutes, the 10K had to be completed within two hours, and the 5K category had a cut-off time of one hour. The event also had an exciting Zumba session for an energetic start to the event. The event was not only focused on fitness; it also centred on cleanliness and environmental responsibility. The initiative by Swachh Andhra Corporation, in association with Amaravati Runners, encouraged participants to keep their surroundings clean and maintain healthy lifestyles. Most running events have become platforms for good initiatives, community engagement, and bringing people beyond competitive sport. Swachhathon followed this approach by combining physical activity with a social message, encouraging participants to view fitness as part of a broader healthy and responsible lifestyle.

For the timed categories, Timing Chips were provided before race day, enabling electronic recording of performances. Participants in timed categories received a certificate with their timing after the race. The event also provided essential race-day facilities, including hydration stations, refreshments, and breakfast. The event also arranged medical and ambulance support to assist participants during the races. The timed categories were also featured with cash prizes for the top three men and women, recognising leading performers. All participants received benefits for their participation, including an event T-shirt, a goodies bag, a finisher medal, and an e-certificate. Hydration facilities, energy drinks, refreshments and breakfast were also provided to support runners before and after their respective races. For runners in the Half Marathon and 10K, the timing chip added an extra competitive and performance-tracking element to the race experience. Because the event included runners from different age groups, Swachhathon became more than a running event; it brought community participation, awareness, and cleanliness to a single platform. Along with the message, Swachhathon encouraged participants to link personal health with environmental responsibility.
By bringing runners together around the message of cleanliness, Swachhathon 2026 created a platform to promote social responsibility. The event reminded everyone that communities are built not only through large initiatives but also through everyday habits and choices. All participants highlighted that a clean environment and an active lifestyle can go hand in hand. Communities help promote sustainable development and healthy living. Swachhathon 2026 therefore stood as more than a running event in Vijayawada. It highlighted the need for cleaner public spaces, responsible environmental behaviour, and community involvement, while giving participants a chance to support the message through an active, collective experience.
Public running events will provide accessible avenues for people to be more active, create good opportunities, and come together for a cause. All runners completed their respective distances at Indira Gandhi Stadium as the event concluded with strong sporting commitment and a brief reminder of the importance of cleanliness and sustainable living. Swachhathon 2026 is a simple act of running with a bigger message: maintaining a healthy community supports personal well-being and responsibility for the environment we live in.
