PALAKKAD, KERALA (India CSR): Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust, the philanthropic arm of the Sobha Group, laid the foundation stone for Devi Home in Moolamcode, Palakkad. This unique initiative aims to provide a nurturing and secure environment for orphaned girls aged 10 years and below, as well as elderly women aged 50 years and above.
Devi Home reflects Sobha’s commitment to empowering women and fostering inclusivity. The facility is designed to ensure dignity, care, and opportunities for its residents, helping them lead fulfilling lives.
1. A Home for 144 Residents
Devi Home will accommodate 72 young girls and 72 elderly women from underprivileged backgrounds across Kerala. The project gives initial preference to residents of economically backward panchayats, including Kizhakkencherry, Vadakkencherry, and Kannambra in the Palakkad district.
Spread over 26,000 square feet of land with a built-up area of 42,000 square feet, the home will provide essential facilities such as food, clothing, and shelter. Young girls will receive educational support, while elderly women will participate in skill-training workshops to enhance their productivity and well-being.
“Devi Home represents resilience, care, and compassion,” said PNC Menon, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Sobha Limited. “Our vision is to create a space where these often-overlooked members of society can live with dignity and a sense of belonging.”
2. Empowering Women through Inclusive Management
The initiative is designed to be managed entirely by women staff, emphasizing the Trust’s dedication to empowering women. Beneficiaries will be selected based on guidelines established by the government, ensuring transparency and fairness.
“Devi Home is more than a shelter,” Menon added. “It is a symbol of Sobha’s dedication to uplifting communities through meaningful and sustainable initiatives.”
3. A Model for Social Development
Devi Home builds on Sobha’s impactful legacy in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Over the years, the Sri Kurumba Trust has launched several initiatives, including:
- Griha Sobha Housing Initiative, providing 1,000 free homes to underprivileged families by 2030.
- Sobha Academy and Sobha Icon, which have educated over 2,300 children.
- Healthcare services benefiting more than 3 lakh patients.
- No-Dowry Weddings, supporting nearly 700 couples across Kerala.
“Sobha’s efforts have consistently addressed critical social challenges,” said Sri K.D. Prasenan, Alathur MLA. “Devi Home is a unique model that offers care to orphaned girls and elderly women, setting an example for other states to emulate.”
4. Laying the Foundation for a Brighter Future
During the event, Sri K.D. Prasenan also laid the foundation stone for a hi-tech Anganwadi building, further emphasizing the Trust’s focus on early childhood education and care.
The ceremony was attended by Sobha Menon, Ravi Menon, Chairman of Sobha Limited, trustees of Sri Kurumba Trust, and local dignitaries.
“Devi Home is not just a building; it is a commitment to social impact,” said Sobha Menon. “We are creating a legacy of compassion and care.”
Through initiatives like Devi Home, the Sobha Group continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of marginalized communities, setting new benchmarks for social development in India.
