NEW DELHI (India CSR): The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) has given Vantara, the wildlife care and conservation centre in Jamnagar, a clean chit on all major allegations, including claims that it was acquiring animals to generate carbon credits for commercial gain.Â
Established by Anant Ambani under the Reliance Foundation, Vantara is one of the world’s largest conservation initiatives, housing thousands of rescued and conservation-protected animals and employing nearly 3,000 specialists and caretakers. The SIT’s detailed review of the centre’s operations and funding confirmed that the allegations of misusing water resources and carbon credits were entirely baseless, lacking any factual or legal foundation, and appeared exaggerated to attract attention.Â
The SIT also clarified that there is no recognised domestic or international framework that awards carbon credits for the rescue, housing, or upkeep of wild animals. Vantara has neither applied for nor received any such credits, and its work is funded entirely through philanthropic means, not linked to any monetised environmental credit mechanism.
The Supreme Court has accepted the SIT’s findings, effectively closing the case and affirming Vantara’s commitment to wildlife welfare and conservation.
