NEW DELHI (India CSR): In a remarkable move toward community empowerment, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has gone above and beyond its statutory Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) obligations. With an approved budget of Rs 170 crore for FY 2024-25, SECL is set to significantly enhance the quality of life for residents in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. This investment, which exceeds the mandated Rs 99.76 crore CSR budget, underscores SECL’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in the regions it operates.
A Vision for Health, Education, and Skill Development
SECL’s CSR initiatives are designed to address critical areas such as healthcare, education, and skill development. By focusing on these pillars, the company aims to create a lasting impact on the communities surrounding its 64 coal mines across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Key Projects to Transform Lives
One of the standout projects is the construction of a 500-bed girls’ hostel at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Raipur, funded entirely by SECL with an investment of Rs 48.19 crore. This initiative will provide safe and comfortable accommodation for female students, encouraging higher education among young women.
In the healthcare sector, SECL has allocated Rs 28.08 crore for a state-of-the-art 3.0 Tesla MRI machine at the Late Bisahu Das Mahant Memorial Medical College in Korba. This advanced equipment will significantly improve diagnostic capabilities, benefiting thousands of patients in the region.
Additionally, SECL has earmarked Rs 30.92 crore to support the Vidisha district administration in Madhya Pradesh. This funding will address critical issues like malnutrition, stunting, anemia, and sickle cell anemia, ensuring better health outcomes for vulnerable populations.
SECL Ki Dhadkan: A Lifeline for Children
SECL’s flagship program, SECL Ki Dhadkan, has already made a profound impact by providing life-saving heart surgeries for 60 children with congenital heart defects. With an additional ₹4.71 crore approved, the program aims to treat over 300 children across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, offering hope and a healthier future to families in need.
A Commitment to Sustainable Development
Biranchi Das, Director (Personnel) of SECL, emphasized the company’s dedication to community welfare. “These CSR initiatives reflect SECL’s unwavering commitment to the communities we serve. We believe in empowering people through education, healthcare, and skill development, ensuring a brighter future for all,” he said.
