The foundation’s construction of soak pits and soak wells has helped to mitigate waterlogging and improve groundwater recharge.

The S M Sehgal Foundation‘s initiatives in rural development have brought about significant positive changes in the lives of rural communities in Uttar Pradesh. Through their crop demonstrations, they have introduced farmers to modern agricultural techniques and technologies that have increased crop yields and improved crop quality. The foundation’s efforts in establishing kitchen gardens have enabled families to grow their own nutritious food, reducing their dependence on expensive, processed food.

The foundation’s construction of soak pits and soak wells has helped to mitigate waterlogging and improve groundwater recharge. These measures have resulted in improved soil fertility, higher crop productivity, and better livelihoods for farmers. The construction of ponds and farm ponds has helped to conserve water and increase the availability of irrigation water for farmers.

Mamta who is living in district Prayagraj, has witnessed the struggles that many families faced in accessing nutritious food and earning a sustainable income. She had decided to work towards bringing the change in her life. With a passion for gardening, Mamta decided to set up a home garden that would not only provide her family with a steady supply of fresh vegetables but also create an additional source of income.

With the support of the S M Sehgal Foundation, Mamta learned how to grow a variety of vegetables in her kitchen garden such as okra, spinach, and gourd, using. As her garden flourished, Mamta began selling surplus vegetables to other women in her community, and soon her small initiative had turned into a thriving business.

Today, Mamta’s home garden not only provides her family with a nutritious diet but has also enabled her to generate some additional income, which she uses to invest in her children’s education and improve her family’s living standards. Her initiative has also inspired other women in her community to pursue similar entrepreneurial opportunities, helping to strengthen the local economy and create a more self-reliant and prosperous rural society. Mamta’s story is a testament to the transformative power of small initiatives in rural development and serves as an inspiration to others to follow in her footsteps.
