VISAKHAPATNAM: Shri PSN Murthy, Former Manager (Library), Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has been bestowed with yet another award, the Grandhalaya Pithamaha “Iyyanki Venkataramanayya – Dr Velaga Venkatappaiah Puraskaram” for the year 2013.
The award was instituted in honour of the two doyens of the Indian Library Movement, which is presented annually to two individuals for their self-less service to the society in their chosen field. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, Shawl and a Citation.
The award was presented to PSN Murthy on 24 July 2013 at a function organized by the Iyyanki – Velaga Puraskara Committee held at Annamayya Kalavedika, Sri Venkateswara Swamy Devasthanam, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Shri Ch. Mastanayya, Chairman of the temple committee presided over the function with Shri. Malladi Vishnu, MLA as the Chief Guest. Shri L. Rathaiah, Chairman of Vignan Educational Institutions gave away the awards, while Shri Pavuluri Srinivasa Rao who is the convener of the Committee, organized the awards function.
PSN Murthy is the founder President of the Society for the Promotion of Public Libraries, Visakhapatnam which is engaged in the development of Public Libraries & NGO-managed libraries in and around Visakhapatnam. He is the first person to apply the concept of CSR to libraries and proved that public libraries can also derive support from corporate firms and PSUs under the CSR mandate. Shri Murthy is a recipient of many awards and felicitations for his self-less contributions and service to the development of Public Libraries.
