CHENNAI: The Shipping Ministry has earmarked 3-5 per cent of profits through ports for spending on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, informed Minister for Shipping G K Vasan here on Saturday.
Addressing reporters at a function organised by Ennore Port Limited, he said, “In this current fiscal year, Ennore Port Limited, Chennai Port Trust and V O Chidambaranar Port Trust have spent around Rs 2.72 crore, Rs 75 lakh and Rs 3 crore respectively for their CSR activities.”
Around 42 port extension projects worth Rs 14, 750 crore are in the pipeline, and contracts worth Rs 6,800 crore were awarded for 32 such projects this year on public-private partnership basis, he added.
On the Centre’s rejection of TN Assembly’s resolution over Eelam referendum, he said, “TN Congress will urge the Centre to do some good to the Tamils there.” He also reiterated that there was no possibility for early polls.
