A credit score of 600 is considered to be average for availing a personal loan in Chennai or any other major city in India. Most banks in our country prefer credit scores above 750. But digital lenders focus on evaluating your current salary, job stability, and debt utilisation too rather than just credit scores. Applicants should check their credit reports for errors, prepare digital documents, pick realistic loan amounts, apply to one lender at a time, and complete their digital KYC verification.

Quick Reads

  • Digital platforms accept fair credit scores (600–650) that traditional banks often reject.
  • Lenders look at monthly salary and job stability over borrowing history and credit score.
  • Keeping monthly debt utilization under 40–50% of total income boosts approval rates.
  • Digital KYC and online document verification ensure fast loan processing and quick disbursal.

Living and working in major urban hubs comes with regular financial demands. Rental security deposits, home repairs, medical bills, and family commitments don’t wait for a perfect credit score. Banks prefer individuals with a credit score of 750 or higher for credit services and often reject individuals with scores lower than this. If your score sits around 600, you might worry about loan application rejections. The good news is that 600 is far from a dealbreaker as modern digital lenders evaluate applicants based on multiple practical criteria.

Understanding how lenders review your credit profiles helps ensure fast approval for your application without unnecessary stress.

What Is Credit Score and What Is Its Use in Personal Loan?

A credit score is a rating from 300 to 900 that shows the lender your creditworthiness and repayment record. Credit bureaus calculate this based on your borrowing history, payment consistency, active credit accounts, and total outstanding debt.

In personal loan evaluation, lenders use your credit score to gauge risk. Since no collateral or security deposit is required in exchange for these loans, the credit score serves as an indicator of how responsibly you manage your borrowed funds.

What Are the Reasons for a Low Credit Score?

A low credit score doesn’t simply mean that you are in financial trouble. More often, it just comes down to your everyday borrowing habits and minor credit disputes that quietly pull your rating down over time. Looking out for these common factors can help you preserve and build your credit score over time:

  • High Credit Utilization: Consistently using over 40% of your available credit card limits.
  • Credit History: Having a short borrowing history with limited credit lines.
  • Missed Payments: A single delayed bill payment that was later settled in full.
  • Frequent Credit Checks: Submitting multiple loan applications within a short timeframe.

Who Is Eligible for a Personal Loan?

Lenders focus more on your monthly earnings, current debt payments, and job stability rather than just your credit score when it comes to personal loans. Most banks maintain high entry standards. To get a personal loan in Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai or any other city, you must have a strong credit score of 750 or above and require a minimum monthly income between ₹25,000 and ₹35,000.

They are also very strict about how much of your salary goes toward existing debts, capping your total active monthly EMIs at less than 40% of your take-home pay. On top of that, their process involves submitting pay slips, visiting the bank, and completing paperwork manually, which often takes 5 to 7 business days to process and disburse your money.

Modern online lenders are far more flexible for people with just a fair credit score. They happily accept credit scores between 600 and 650 by setting lower minimum salary limits, often starting from ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 per month. They also give you more breathing room with your debt, allowing up to 50% or 55% of your income to cover existing EMIs. Because everything is done digitally through your phone using online KYC checks, approved loan amounts can be transferred to your bank account in just a few hours.

How to Apply for a Personal Loan?

Applying for an online personal loan is really simple when you prepare ahead of time. A few simple checks done in a timely manner can help your here:

  • Check Credit Report: Review your credit report to check for any errors and dispute any discrepancies before submitting your request.
  • Organize Documents: Keep your digital copies of your PAN card, Aadhaar card, employee ID, and your recent bank statements ready for instant upload.
  • Select Principal: Choose a loan amount with a monthly EMI that comfortably fits within your budget.
  • Avoid Multiple Inquiries: Submitting multiple requests to lenders indicates high demand for credit and lowers your credit score.
  • Complete e-KYC: Finish your Video and OTP-based digital KYC, and once it’s approved, the money is transferred into your bank account.

Final Thoughts

Handling unexpected expenses shouldn’t become a stressful ordeal simply because your credit score is 600. Modern digital platforms evaluate you based on your earning ability rather than your credit history. Whether you need to secure a personal loan in Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, or any other city, exploring your options through digital lending platforms like Finnable offers a clean, reliable, and paperless way to access funds right when you need them.
