Mumbai Hackathon: 7,500+ Students Innovate for a Better City

MUMBAI (India CSR): Over 7,500 students from across Mumbai came together to solve real-world challenges at Kalpadarsh – A Showcase of Creativity, marking the grand finale of the Mumbai Hackathon 2025. The event celebrated young innovators who designed 90+ groundbreaking solutions to address urban issues such as waste management, traffic congestion, public health, and environmental sustainability.

Organized by Pi Jam Foundation, in collaboration with the Mumbai Dabbawalas and Nomura Services India, this city-wide initiative aimed to equip students with 21st-century problem-solving skills and encourage them to create technology-driven and grassroots solutions for Mumbai’s pressing challenges.

A Movement for Change Through Innovation

Launched in September 2024, the Mumbai Hackathon encouraged students from government schools and underprivileged backgrounds to think critically and innovate. With an overwhelming 7,500+ submissions, the event proved to be a testament to the power of education and creativity.

“The participation in the Mumbai Hackathon has been incredible,” said Pranjali Pathak, spokesperson for Pi Jam Foundation. “Students have demonstrated exceptional technical skills, responsibility, and creativity. This hackathon is proof that, with the right tools and opportunities, young minds can address real-life challenges and contribute to making Mumbai a better city.”

Technology Meets Grassroots Problem-Solving

Students leveraged Pi Jam’s Code Mitra app, an innovative, gamified learning platform, to design and develop their solutions. A specialized module, created in partnership with Mumbai’s iconic Dabbawalas, helped students identify critical issues in the city and explore feasible solutions.

Arijit Pal Choudhury, MD, Head of HR, Corporate Communications & Sustainability, Nomura Services India, praised the initiative, saying:

“The Mumbai Hackathon underscores the transformative power of inclusive education and creativity. Seeing these projects developed by future changemakers fills me with immense hope for a better tomorrow. By equipping students with real-world problem-solving experiences, we are not just fostering innovation but also building a foundation for a progressive and equitable society. Innovative Ideas with a Real Impact

The showcased projects demonstrated an impressive mix of practicality and creativity. From affordable waste management systems to mobile apps addressing transportation challenges, students used cutting-edge technology and community-driven solutions to tackle Mumbai’s urban issues.

Event Highlights:

Shaping the Future of Innovation and Learning

The Mumbai Hackathon 2025 not only celebrated innovation but also served as a platform for mentorship, learning, and collaboration. Students had the opportunity to interact with industry leaders, receive expert feedback, and gain exposure to future career possibilities in STEM and social entrepreneurship.

By bringing together young minds, educators, and corporate partners, the Mumbai Hackathon is shaping the next generation of problem-solvers—equipping them with the confidence, skills, and vision to build a better, more sustainable Mumbai.
