JAMSHEDPUR: Jamshedpur Eye Hospital (JEH) celebrated the year 2011-12 as Golden Jubilee year. While reaffirming its commitment to serve humanity, a plethora of innovative social events were organised. To update the knowledge as well as skills of ophthalmologists and health workers, a ‘Live Surgical Workshop’ on recent advances in management of eye diseases and several CME sessions were organized.
Earlier this year, on February 24, 2012, JEH organized a formal function to celebrate this occasion. Inauguration of a new ‘Ward Complex’ and a ‘Poster Exhibition’, citing the history and activities of JEH ‘Yaadein Kal Ki, Baatein Aaj Ki’ were the main events for that day. Large number of dignitaries of the steel city, present and past committee members, doctors, staff and representatives from media had graced the occasion.
While addressing the audience Chief Guest Ms Surekha Nerurkar, President, JEH said, “Since the Golden Jubilee celebrations were opened, the hospital has nurtured more than 6000 people this year. Like the hospital believes, we all must have faith in the motto ‘One life to live, one life to love’ and cater towards the happiness of our less privileged brethren, who have been unfortunate to have encountered corneal complications, in whatever way possible.’’
Guest of Honour Mr Rakeshwar Pandey, President, Tata Mazdoor Union, said, “It is our responsibility to help all, more so the unfortunate ones. Tata Steel has always extended its arm for the betterment of the needy, be it in the form of building schools or hospitals, and will continue to do so. It is important for us to individually understand our responsibilities and make this earth a better place to live in for the vision-less people.”
Newly Added facilities – While Jamshedpur Eye Hospital, is constantly trying to upgrade its facilities in order to provide best services to the society. The following facilities have been added to our hospital recently:
Appointment System – Patient can seek prior appointment on phone (0657-2432203, 2143514) to save time. Automatic SMS will be sent as appointment is fixed.
Payment by Card – Patients can make payment of their indoor bills by Debit /Credit card
Super Specialty Service (Oculoplastic, Orbital, Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery): Dr Pummy Roy, Trained Consultant from Shankara Nethralya , Chennai has been appointed at JEH. This facility is not available at Jamshedpur & around.
New Life Saving /Anaesthesia equipment: Indoor & OT has been equipped with new equipment, which will help in tackling emergencies and giving safe anesthesia.
Future Plans – JEH has an ambitious plan to develop state of the art infrastructure and acquire sophisticated ophthalmic diagnostic and treatment equipment and become a preferred center for management of eye disorders for citizens of state of Jharkhand and nearby areas:
Anti-VEGF Therapy- Intra vitreal Injection to treat cases of Macular oedema in cases of Diabetic retinopathy, Retinal vascular occlusion and age related macular degeneration.
New OT Complex with posterior segment surgery facility: Proposal has been put to NGOs and the corporate.
Technical Collaboration with other tertiary eye care centers of the country to upgrade hospital facilities.
Funding Activities – JEH is a self-sustained non-profit making organization and can accept subscription, donation, grant from firm, company, Government. We have following donation schemes:
Rs 10,000 – One cataract surgery with IOL will be done free on donor’s name.
Rs1, 00,000 – One cataract surgery with IOL each year for 12 years on donor’s name.
Donation for modernization plan
Donations are exempt from Income tax under section 80 G of Income Tax Act 1961.
JEH is striving hard to render its best services to the society at affordable cost; the institution hopes that all sections of the society, in turn will come forward to nurture this institution and help in its growth by their benevolence.
The programme aimed at increasing awareness among the people about the role of JEH in the field of eye care.
Jamshedpur Eye Hospital:
The Jamshedpur Eye Hospital (JEH), a primary level eye care centre established in 1961, has grown into an institution for providing comprehensive eye care to the citizens of Jamshedpur and population of its surrounding areas with special emphasis on serving the under-privileged sections of society. At JEH around 46,000 patients are examined in the OPD & 4500 patients are operated annually. In last FY 2000 cases were seen free & out of them 600 cases were operated free.
Free Out-reach camps; Community awareness programmes and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes for ophthalmologists and paramedical, Promotion of eye donation & performing corneal transplants are the areas which have made JEH different from other eye care centers of the steel city. Establishing ‘JEH’ an eye care brand now has its own LOGO.
