The government has a strong focus on developing skills in areas such as drones, the Internet of Things, robotics, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, 5G technologies, mechatronics, cloud computing, blockchain, extended reality (including augmented and virtual reality), cyber security, 3D printing, and VLSI design. These skills are expected to drive the economy forward as a manufacturing and services driver.
II. National Skill Development Corporation Partnership for Drone and AI Training
The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative (IFFCO) and WOW Factors India to explore options for training farmers and other individuals in the use and promotion of drones for alternative fertilizers such as nano urea and other organic options. The MoU will focus on using new technology, including drones and AI-based decision support systems, to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and increase the use of low-cost organic inputs. It also aims to support start-ups for innovations that can increase productivity and improve the condition of farmers.
III. Skill India for Women Empowerment
As part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Mission Karmayogi” program, the Ministry of Skill has provided self-defense training to women under the “My Safety, My Responsibility” program. The MSDE has entered into an agreement with the Sports, Physical Education, Fitness, and Laser Skills Council to provide this training to 10,000 working women and ITI girl students. Additionally, the MSDE has conducted a 16-day module on gender sensitization in collaboration with UNWomen.
IV. Promoting Apprenticeship Training
The MSDE has undertaken comprehensive simplification reforms to make it easier for businesses to participate in apprenticeship training. This includes the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) pilot project, which has processed more than 108,000 DBT transactions worth INR 15.6 crore to date. The DBT program is set to be rolled out nationwide next year. The MSDE has also implemented reforms in the BTP, NAPS guidelines, and examination procedures to streamline the apprenticeship process.
V. Promoting Entrepreneurship
The MSDE has trained 12.88 lakh participants through 48,700 programs, including trainer training programs and programs on stimulating, supporting, and sustaining entrepreneurship development. This includes international candidates from 145 countries. The MSDE has also established five livelihood business incubation centers to provide training and incubation support for aspiring entrepreneurs in the fields of fashion design, beauty and wellness, mobile repair, food processing, and electrical and home appliances. Through the PM-YUVA program, the MSDE has helped create 991 new enterprises and scale up 1,071 existing enterprises.
The MSDE has also implemented a pilot project on entrepreneurship development in the holy cities of Varanasi, Haridwar, and Pandharpur. This project aims to catalyze entrepreneurial activity in these areas by supporting existing enterprises to scale up and helping identify and set up new enterprises. The MSDE has also developed an online e-mentoring platform called “UdyamDisha” to guide and support aspiring and existing entrepreneurs, and launched a YouTube channel called “PM-Udyami Talks” to raise awareness about entrepreneurship and showcase the entrepreneurial journeys of beneficiaries of MSDE programs.
The MSDE has launched a project on digital marketing and women entrepreneurship development for Women Self Help Groups in 10 aspirational districts of Odisha, covering 2,020 women. This project aims to enable these women to access the market through e-commerce platforms. The MSDE has also been accredited as a National Resource Organization by the Ministry of Rural Development for the Start
