New Delhi: With an objective to scale up the use of solar energy for irrigation pumps, the Indian government has announced Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Uttham Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme. Under the scheme, installation of 17.50 lakh stand-alone solar agricultural pumps and solarisation of 10 Lakh Grids connected agricultural pumps will be done, informed Shakti Pumps India Ltd.
PM-KUSUM would immensely help the farmers and will contribute to climate change mitigation efforts. This will further reduce carbon footprints and double the farmers’ income by selling excess solar energy to distribution companies (DISCOMs).
As per government sources, the project envisages the implementation of overall 2.75 Lakh agricultural pumps for the financial year 2019-20.
