Hon’ble Governor of Odisha Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati Inspires Students to Lead with Innovation and Knowledge
BHUBANESWAR (India CSR): The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar marked its 17th Foundation Day with a grand celebration on February 12, 2025. The event commemorated the foundation stone laying of the campus at Argul on the same day in 2009. The celebration was graced by Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, as the Chief Guest.
In his keynote address, Dr. Kambhampati emphasized the role of knowledge creation and innovation in transforming the world. Encouraging students to be bold, visionary, and socially responsible, he stated, “Let us create knowledge that will inform and transform the world and prepare students as technically grounded leaders who will change the world.”
A Journey of Growth and Excellence
The event began with a welcome address by Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, who reflected on the institute’s journey since its establishment in 2008. He highlighted the progress made towards the ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’ vision, detailing initiatives in teaching, research, entrepreneurship, and corporate social responsibility.
He also underlined IIT Bhubaneswar’s strategic collaborations with industries and its focus on multidisciplinary learning, which prepares students for leadership roles in emerging global sectors.

Governor’s Address: A Call for Leadership and Innovation
During his address, Hon’ble Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati applauded the institute’s contributions to education and research. He emphasized IIT Bhubaneswar’s role in shaping India’s growing start-up ecosystem and technological advancements.
He encouraged students to pursue ambitious projects, fostering a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. He further urged them to align with national missions like ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, reinforcing India’s global aspirations.
Showcasing Research & Innovation
As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, Dr. Kambhampati visited several cutting-edge research facilities at IIT Bhubaneswar, including:
- IIT Bhubaneswar Research & Entrepreneurship Park
- Silicon Carbide Research and Innovation Center (SiCRIC)
- Microfabrication and Characterization Lab
- Renewable Energy Systems Lab
- Virtual and Augmented Reality Center of Excellence (VARCoE)
- Systems on Chip Laboratory
These advanced research centers exemplify IIT Bhubaneswar’s commitment to technological innovation and industry-driven solutions.
Launch of ‘Pravaah’ – The Cultural & Technopreneurship Fest
On this occasion, IIT Bhubaneswar also launched the first edition of its annual cultural and technopreneurship fest, ‘Pravaah’. With the theme “Solistra Novarion,” symbolizing innovation and transformation, the fest aims to inspire students towards technological advancements and entrepreneurial ventures.

CSR Initiative: Inauguration of Electric Vehicles
In a significant step towards sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), IIT Bhubaneswar formally inaugurated two 8-seater electric vehicles donated by Canara Bank under their CSR initiative.
The inauguration was led by Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, and Shri Jagdish Chander, General Manager, Canara Bank. The event was attended by Dr. Naresh Chandra Sahu, Professor-in-Charge, CSR Cell, faculty members, and bank officials.
These vehicles will enhance eco-friendly mobility on campus, promoting sustainable practices.
Cultural Extravaganza: A Celebration of Talent
The evening was marked by a grand cultural program, where students showcased their talents through music, dance, and drama performances. The event brought together faculty, staff, and students, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity.
