MUMBAI (India CSR): Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has said that it has achieved 100 per cent Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) recollection compliance for FY 2025-26 and recycled nearly 12,000 tonnes of plastic introduced into the market.
The Maharatna central public sector enterprise said it is strengthening its sustainable packaging initiatives through HP Lubricants by using Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials across its packaging portfolio.
HPCL said it has implemented 30 to 40 per cent PCR material in plastic packaging across its lubricant portfolio. The company has also introduced HP Racer Green in a 100 per cent PCR package.
The initiative is aimed at reducing dependence on virgin plastic and promoting circularity in the packaging value chain, the company said.
HPCL is also manufacturing 100 per cent recyclable tin packs as part of its sustainable packaging efforts. The company said the initiative supports responsible resource utilisation, waste reduction and environmental conservation without affecting packaging performance.
PCR material refers to recycled rigid plastics such as PET, HDPE and PPCP. These plastics are collected, cleaned, processed and granulated before being reused in packaging manufacturing.
The company said plastic waste is largely sourced from the unorganised sector through scrap collector networks, helping support livelihood generation in the waste collection ecosystem.
The initiative is aligned with EPR compliance requirements under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Under the EPR framework, companies are required to recollect equivalent quantities of plastic introduced into the market and use recycled plastic in packaging materials.
HPCL said approximately 12,000 tonnes of plastic introduced into the market have already been collected and are being channelled back into productive use.
Despite recycled plastic being costlier than virgin plastic, HPCL said it remains committed to expanding the use of recycled plastic across its packaging ecosystem.
The company said these initiatives are aligned with the national vision of Mission LiFE and reflect its focus on sustainable packaging and circular economy practices.
