When people talk about video conferencing and its benefits, they usually talk about how it can lead to improved efficiency, remote working, and its cost-saving benefits but they forget to mention how video conferencing can improve the green credentials of a company and help reduce its carbon footprint.

Studies have shown that video conferencing is in fact better for the environment and it has also become a subject of extensive studies and research across the world. The improvement of video conferencing facilities and their implementation on a wide-scale level can help reduce the global emissions of carbon by a billion tonnes every year and it would substantially help improve the environment.

How is Video Conferencing Beneficial to the Environment?

It is now sound that video conferencing is actually beneficial to the environment but how does it do so? The main purpose of video conferencing is to reduce travel costs and bring people closer remotely. People can join different conferences and business meetings remotely just by sitting at their homes.

It doesn’t matter whether it is a big business, small business, or a huge enterprise, travel costs add up every year and if the trips are more than it can sum up to be a huge amount. With each trip, not only are you contributing to the travel expenses but you are also contributing to the pollution and increasing the number of greenhouse gases in the environment.

By implementing video conferencing, you are removing the need for travel and therefore saving up on travel expenses and decreasing the emission of greenhouse gases.

Implementation of Video Conferencing and Business-Sense

Companies that have implemented video conferencing solutions in their operations have reported that they have reduced their carbon emissions by several tonnes every year by using the phone and video conferencing.

However, this is a problem with the business environment and it is that for any change to be implemented, it has to make business sense because no company would risk losing its revenue. This is one of the main reasons why environmentally positive actions aren’t implemented because businesses would have to make sacrifices and in tough economic times, these implementations don’t make any sort of business sense.

However, video conferencing does have rare benefits of helping the environment and also makes business sense since it helps improve the efficiency of a business and also helps cut down the travel costs. Online Video Platforms such as Omegle and Chatroulette have also made it possible for people to meet strangers around the world without having to go anywhere, reducing the costs of going out and meeting people in real life.

Companies can Benefit from This

People have started to become more conscious and aware of the wider world. The customers have started to become more responsible and they favor purchasing environmentally friendly goods and green-conscious businesses over environmental polluters.

Global Warming is increasing with every passing and its effect will start to become more prominent, customers will not only expect green credentials, but they will also demand them and if a company wants to promote themselves then by the implementation of video conferencing technologies in their offices, they will be reducing their emission of carbon and promote themselves as an environmentally friendly business. Customers who care for the environment will be more likely to choose an environmentally friendly company over its counterparts.

Video Conferencing Improves the Efficiency

Video conferencing also helps improve the efficiency of the employees since they can work remotely from their homes. Video conferencing doesn’t always have to involve HD quality. The whole concept of video conferencing is being able to work and contact someone remotely from anywhere.

For employees, they can work and operate from different locations and when required they can check in to a regional office or central office. This not only increases the efficiency of the business but also increases its flexibility. This allows the clients to be more comfortable since they can contact the employees and employees can contact them at any time they want to without having to fight through rush-hour traffic and catching long flights.

Video Conferencing is just a part of the process for your business to go green. If you are someone who is truly concerned about the environment then you should not only implement this but also take other necessary steps and change how you operate from cleaning practices to how your employees go about their work to make your business environmentally friendly. Of course, it will be difficult and will require some sacrifices but in the end, you will be contributing to a greater cause, to make this earth green and clean.
