BHUBANESWAR: As a part of Livelihood Restoration Program (LRP), GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) started providing training to project affected families on various livelihood initiatives at Mangalpur Panchayat in Dhenkanal district of Odisha.
Out of 153 project affected families, 49 families have taken training on cow and goat rearing. Before providing the cows and goats, GKEL oriented the project affected community how they can ascertain good quality animal and take care of their shed, feeding, vaccination and insurance. The company also supported farmer for purchaisng tractor drawn cultivator.
The Odapada Block Veterinary Officer oriented the project affected community for two days on cow and goat rearing. GKEL will train the entire project affected families who have opted for livestock rearing. The company has planned to support good quality goat to more than 100 families and jersey cow to more than 50 families and will focus on insurance and health care of animals through veterinary experts.
GKEL, which operates 1050 MW thermal power plant at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal district, also supported 20 project affected farmers with certified paddy seed, fertilizer and training on low cost farm management practices. Support has been provided to purchase tractor drawn cultivator to farmers. As part of LRP, GKEL will provide support to 200 families for developing microenterprises in the village level. Ten youths have been sponsored to take up vocational trainings in Angul and Bhubaneswar.
