MUMBAI: The Palakhi (Palanquin) Procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj from Alandi and that of Sant Tukaram Maharaj from Dehu leaves amidst the sounds of cymbals, mridangas and chants of Vitthal for Pandharpur. Every year, Finolex Industries Ltd. makes a notable contribution during the palakhi procession.
The pilgrims (warkaris), participate in the wari from different parts of Maharashtra and Finolex distributes resources useful to them. This year, the company is to give away 50,000 bags that are strong and handy during the travel and more than 10,000 rain ponchos. Beside these, the warkaris will be given biscuits, chivada, tea and cold drinks at various stages of the journey.
Nitin Kulkarni, President, Sales and Marketing Division of Finolex Industries Ltd. said, “Finolex Pipes has developed a special relationship with farmers for the last few decades. Many of these farmers participate in the wari every year. Finolex Pipes, known for its quality and values, has decided to contribute in the form of waterproof bags, Rain Ponchos, medical supplies etc. to make the journey of the warkaris comfortable”.
He further added, “Festivals are a great way to connect to people and we have always been a part of large religious congregation – be it at Kumbh in Nashik or Simhasta in Ujjain, the Ambaji Padyatra in Gujarat or the Rathyatra in Jagganath Puri. We feel it is a great way to reach out to our larger audience and we also find pleasure as a company to help and support people in these ways.”
Finolex Industries Ltd. has also retained the sponsorship with AIR. We have decided to entirely sponsor the commentary of the procession. For this, two independent vans of the All India Radio will be available for live commentary and reporting of the procession. The AIR studio will be in the van itself from where the developments of the wari will be conveyed to the listeners.” said Nitin.
Finolex Pipes has also organized medical camps at different stages during wari in which a team of doctors and nurses will cater to the medical needs of the warkaris. Besides, a medical van has been deployed on the entire wari route to provide other medical treatment to the warkaris. The van will help treating minor problems like fever, headache, bandage on injuries, cough, indigestion, weakness, allergy, dehydration, problems of eyes and ears etc. The warkaris approaching the van will be given zip lock pouches containing some medicines, tablets, glucose, bandage and first aid.
