Renewal Approval for Pawan Gaur Amid CBI Opposition
NEW DELHI (India CSR): In a recent development related to the GAIL bribery case, a Delhi court has given the green light for a suspected middleman, Pawan Gaur, to renew his passport. This move came despite concerns raised by the CBI regarding possible evasion of justice. While the decision has been made in favor of Gaur’s passport renewal, the court has maintained that this does not offer him an automatic ticket for unrestricted international travel.
Renewal Approval for Pawan Gaur Amid CBI Opposition
According to a media report, Pawan Gaur, alleged to be the key link in facilitating bribes for ES Ranganathan, the GAIL Director (Marketing), from certain private entities, has been granted approval by Special Judge Namrita Aggarwal to renew his passport. Gaur’s role was pivotal in allegedly securing advantages for companies purchasing petrochemical products from GAIL.
Contrary to this decision, the CBI had previously voiced its reservations about Gaur’s passport renewal, fearing that he might use the opportunity to escape the clutches of justice. However, Judge Aggarwal addressed these concerns by pointing out that Gaur hadn’t showcased any inclination to avoid legal implications until this point.
GAIL Director and Middleman Facing Multiple Charges
As detailed in the report, Gaur and Ranganathan are embroiled in accusations involving a hefty sum of Rs 50 lakh, in which they allegedly favored private firms by offering them substantial discounts on their purchases from the national petrochemical conglomerate, GAIL. Furthermore, there are added charges against Ranganathan. He is purportedly involved in another case, where he is suspected of amassing assets upwards of Rs 4.82 crore between the years 2017 and 2022. This wealth accumulation is seemingly disproportionate compared to his disclosed sources of income.
