ODISHA: In the wake of Cyclone Fani, VedantaUniversity Project has undertaken relief and aid work at multiple locations in Puri, which were severely impacted by the super cyclone.
In the first phase, a consignment of 4000 relief packets consisting pulses, edible oil, biscuits and a tarpaulin sheet each was mobilized by Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda, from Bargaon, Sundargarh, accompanied by 35 Bharat Scout & Guide volunteers.
On 11th May, BK Patnaik, President – Vedanta University Project, flagged off the relief operation on the company’s behalf. The materials are currently being distributed to 4000 families in 6 villages of Puri – Nalihana, Chaitana, Bhuan, Gadabhingura, Beldal and Gaindol. For effective distribution of the materials, the company has partnered with Puri District Administration and Youth Clubs of each village, who have lent a helping hand to the young scout & guide volunteers.
The company is currently also supplying drinking water to Nalihana village till the existing water supply is restored, and plans are underway to extend the same to other villages.
Speaking on the operation, Mr. BK Patnaik, President – Vedanta University Project said, “The devastation caused by Cyclone Fani is enormous and we stand with the people of Puri in these times of distress. We are currently conducting relief operations partnering the District Administration, Bharat Scouts & Guides and the village Youth Clubs, and we will continue to stand with them.”
