CSR : Vedanta Jharsuguda organizes T-10 Cricket Tournament

JHARSUGUDA: Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda’s CSR dept. conducted the 9th edition of Vedanta Cup 2018, a T-10 Cricket Tournament at Katikela Cricket Ground from 22nd to 25th December. The four day T-10 cricket tournament saw eight powerful teams hailing from Jharsuguda and the neighboring districts compete for the coveted Vedanta Cup.

The ‘Emerzing Boyz’ of Khadiapali emerged champion of the tournament, defeating team ‘United 11’ of Jharsuguda in a riveting match. The brilliantly skilled Bhima Mukhi from Emerzing Boyz squad cinched ‘Man of the Match’ and ‘Man of the Series’ owing to his superlative performance showcase in the tournament.

Naba Kishore Das, MLA – Jharsuguda, Anita Sahoo, Sarpanch – Katikela Gram Panchayat, Sundar Raj, Head CSR – Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda, Harekrushna Hota, Radhamohan Kuanr, Sundarlal Padhan, Motilal Sahu and Baikuntha Sahu graced the final match as dignitaries of the occasion.

The four day cricket tournament series drew over 2500 spectators including community members, village residents, family and friends of participants. Anita Sahoo inaugurated the tournament on 22nd December, post which the 8 teams – RCC (Brajrajnagar), MB Lions (Jharsuguda), SS Club (Katikela), RCB (Buchamunda), Wariors 11 (Sambalpur), Shantinagar (Jharsuguda), Emerging Boyz (Khadiapali) and United 11 (Jharsuguda) – battled it out through group stage, quarter-final and final in the course of the tournament. On the final day of the tournament, a friendly match was played between the employees of Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda and SS Club, Katikela.

Speaking about the tournament, Sundar Raj, Head – CSR, Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda, said “As a department, we focus on creating meaningful community engagements through our CSR efforts. Sports have always been a wonderful way of meaningfully engaging the youth and aids in their holistic development. Initiatives like the Vedanta Cup are an effort by us in this direction.”

Promotion of sports at grassroots level is a major focus area for Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda’s CSR. Apart from community development initiatives in dimensions like Sustainable Livelihood & Women Empowerment, Health & Sanitation, Quality Education, Community Infrastructure & Bio-investment, the company’s CSR also works on giving the local youth avenues to display their sporting skills. Apart from the Vedanta Cup, this year the CSR dept. has also extended support in organizing football tournaments in Gudigaon and R&R Colony and cricket tournament in Kurebaga.
