NARENDRAPUR: Aimed at creating awareness and understanding about environmental issues among school students, Tata Steel BSL launched ‘The Green School Project’ of Tata Steel in association with New Delhi based ‘The Energy and Resources Institute’ (TERI) at Nuahata Upgraded High School, under Banarpal block.
The project aims to create awareness and sensitize students, teachers and community on issues related to environment through classroom teaching and outdoor activities. The project focusses on empowering the next generation through distinct pedagogy, green curricula and project-based learning.
Since 2017, the project has been running successfully in other operational areas of Tata Steel in 40 schools in different parts of the country.
Following the last two phases, in Phase III, 4 schools of Angul and Dhenkanal Districts – Kusupanga Nodal High School, Kurunti UP School, SSS High School, Kurunti, Nuahata Upgraded High School, Gopabandhu High School, Khaliberana and UP School, Khaliberana have been added.
Appreciating the initiative Abhimanyu Sahu said that, this will go a long way in shaping young minds on sustainability issues and urged the children to sincerely participate in the programme.
Expressing happiness over the launch of The Green School project’, Manikant Naik said,“Tata Steel BSL has been proactive in initiating projects towards a sustainable future. Students being the best change agents in the journey towards addressing the challenges of climate change and sustainbility, I am hopeful that this project will help as a platform in creating the much needed awareness on the subject.
The project will encompass year-round activities related to environment in schools for one year where ‘whole school’ approach is being adopted with emphasis on students of Class 6 to 8 in the formal schools for capacity building initiatives.
More than 120 students along with teachers from 4 schools participated in the event.
