CHENNAI: In the past six years, Srinivasan Services Trust (SST), the social enterprise of TVS Motor Company and Sundaram-Clayton Ltd, has contributed more than Rs. 21 crores to water conservation initiatives in communities around Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. SST has executed programmes in the districts of Javadhu Hills and Thally that resulted in the construction of 19 check dams and 120 farm ponds. With 350 desilting projects, SST has increased the amount of water that can be stored by 160 crore litres. Additionally, SST has conducted watershed projects in the Tamil Nadu districts of Tirunelveli and Tiruvannamalai, desilted 7 waterbodies inside forests in the Krishnagiri district, and aims to invest more than 10 crore rupees in water conservation measures over the next three years.
Swaran Singh IAS (R), the chairman of SST, expressed his opinions. He stated that this increased investment in water conservation is a step closer to the aim of “making rural India self-sustainable and empowered,” which motivates SST’s dedication to serving rural populations. In order to contribute to the sustainable management of water resources, SST will continue to pinpoint areas and carry out programmes using scientific techniques, significantly improving the lives of the communities it serves.
SST CSR Initiatives’ Effect
With the help of SST’s actions, the tanks’ original capacity was restored, and groundwater levels in the nearby communities rose, preventing flooding and enhancing the socioeconomic standing of the locals. Farmers are able to cultivate more crops per year and cover more ground thanks to the increased water availability.
