MUMBAI: More than 180 elderly people from 30 old age homes participated in the special event organized by 52 Rotary clubs at Aspee Auditorium, Malad West under the leadership of District 3141 Governor Rtn. Shashikumar Sharma.
The event held on 1 July 2018, marked the beginning of a new year, titled Miracle, and was a day filled with lots of heart-warming moments and smiles.
The elderly from the city who are now living a life of loneliness in several old age homes across Mumbai are precious pages of our history. As they lead a life of oblivion, battling loneliness, they seek love and affection wherever possible. 52 rotary clubs from Mumbai came together to reach out and connect with these senior citizens across 30 old age homes, with a sole purpose to bring a smile to their faces with Baghban- care for elderly event.
The event unfolded with a performance by renowned singer Dr. Rahul Joshi, who instantly connected with the audience and set the tone for the day. After enthralling the audience for a good three hours, the curtains finally drew halfway down with the powerful chanting of Vitthal… Vitthal.., sending out a feeling of universal blessing in the air.
Anu Shrivastava, a senior member, shared her experience saying, “When the eyes get moist, the throat gets all choked up and simultaneously a smile adorns the face…trust me, something good and wonderful is happening all around.”
She added, “Oblivious of everything else, I enjoyed Baghban for its purpose, for its sensitivity, and for the blessings galore that were showered on all present by the inmates of old age homes across RI District 3141. बड़ों का प्यार कुछ माँगता नही, देता ही है। This giving comes in the form of blessings and there couldn’t have been a better beginning to the Miracle Year than seeking the blessings of the elderly. The program, for its uniqueness, will be etched in my memory……for sure!”
Vikas Upadhyay, one of the Assistant Governors for District 3141, added, “Rotary is committed to all sections of the society. Rotary district 3141 has embarked upon the new-year from 1 July which is named as Miracle as it intends to do magnanimous service projects in this new-year July 2018-June 2019 under the leadership of District Governor Shashikumar Sharma. What a way to start the year garnering blessings from the senior citizens of our society who live in old age homes!”
The event was the brainchild of District Governor Shashikumar Sharma. He, along with the support of fellow Rotarians, made this event a memorable one for all.
Chetan Desai, Chief Group Avenue Head, Community Service 2018 – 19 added, “I would like to applaud the efforts put in by Avenue Chair Deepa Goenka, volunteers of RC Bombay Kandivli, members of District Non-Medical III Avenue, 52 Rotary clubs of Rotary district 3141 for carrying out this meaningful project on the very first day of the Rotary year 2018 – 19.”
