REC Foundation, the CSR arm of the Navratna Central Govt. Public Sector Enterprise REC Limited, has increased its efforts in a big way to support welfare work across aspirational districts of the country.

The foundation has partnered with at least half a dozen aspirational districts in the thematic areas of Health, Nutrition and School Education.

The focus of the foundation has been on all-around development of India’s unnoticed regions and has travelled far and wide to select ambitious projects in districts where most organizations aren’t able to reach.

REC Foundation has committed a total sum of around Rs. 55 crore towards projects aimed at transforming school education and improving health services in Mamit District of Mizoram, Kiphire District of Nagaland, Muzzafarpur District of Bihar, Udham Singh Nagar District of Uttar Pradesh, Chandel District of Manipur and West Sikkim District, REC statement said.

REC signed a memorandum with Mamit District in Mizoram for transforming school education in government schools and improvement of health services in government health facilities. It committed about Rs 20.63 crore under the initiative.

The initiative aimed at bringing out-of-school children back to formal education, improvement of facilities in schools from water filters to biometric attendance trackers. On the healthcare front, the foundation will work with more than 40 facilities to improve their services.

It will include mobile vans, life support equipment and medical test facilities apart from ‘telemedicine’ equipment for all 52 government medical facilities.

REC foundation also committed Rs 9.69 crore as part of its CSR initiative to Kiphire district in Nagaland. Here, the foundation will provide education to 20-30 selected candidates to learn paramedical studies and serve the district for at least five years.

The foundation is also providing 2 pediatricians and 15 nurses to improve maternal health and child care facilities. At the same time, infrastructural support in terms of vaccine storage facilities and renovation of dilapidated government school buildings is also being taken up by the foundation.

On November 27, 2019, it signed MoA with SELCO Foundation, Karnataka on its project to deliver solar-powered solutions in Bihar’s Muzzafarpur district. The project involves portable solar-powered Anganwadi, solar power for 5 Anganwadi centres, a solar-powered smart classroom, lighting & powering medical equipment in a Primary Health Centre and the solar powering of Kasturba residential school in Muzaffarpur.

In the far north, REC Foundation has partnered with Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The foundation has committed Rs 2.25 crore to improve 150 government Anganwadis by thematic planning, providing infrastructure, and toys and necessities to the playschools.

The Foundation has partnered with Chandel district of Manipur for transforming school education and improving the Primary Health Center and other facilities in two years. The foundation committed financial assistance of Rs. 6 crore towards the project.

The project aims at upgrading 242 schools in the district by providing water supply facility, water purifiers; 20 smart classes and 4 transit hostels for schoolteachers working in remote locations

Similarly, REC foundation also committed CSR assistance to West Sikkim for transforming the health and education situation in the region. The foundation will provide Rs 16.85 crore as part of the project which will involve strengthening of libraries, laboratories, recruitment of teachers, smart classes and furniture for the schools requiring infrastructure.

Additionally, Rs 1.63 crore will be spent on providing medical equipment and instruments in the district hospital and other healthcare facilities.

The Memorandum of Agreements (MoA) was executed between REC Foundation and the respective agencies involved.
