CHANDWA (Jharkhand): McCluskiegunj is a very small town in the state of Jharkhand, about 40 km from Chandwa. The town used to have a significant Anglo-Indian community at one time but this has declined considerably and the glory of the place lost its essence because of the apprehension of people from several naxal groups.
It was founded by the Colonisation Society of India in 1933 as a homeland for Anglo-Indians and was home to 400 Anglo-Indian families within ten years. Of the nearly 300 original settlers, only 5-10 families remain. The town has lush green surroundings, dirt tracks and fresh air to breathe.
In case of Chandwa, the advent of Abhijeet Group proved to be a boon for the place and its people because of which socio economic development has taken big leap in short span of 5 years.
Same way, the tryst with destiny for Abhijeet Group is to create miracle in McCluskiegunj enable the place to regain its glory back and people may live without any apprehension.
Apart from other Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) works rolling out in the town by Abhijeet Group, a night cricket tournament was organized making people feel apprehension prevails any more.
The tournament was inaugurated by Rajeev Goyal, Chief Construction Manager (CCM), Abhijeet Group, Chandwa which ended with peace and harmony. Rajeev Goyal in his address to the spectators appealed to keep involving themselves in such activities for the betterment of the town.
It is to be noted that Abhijeet Group is setting up a super thermal power plant in Chandwa region. The Chandwa Power Project, is a coal-fired power project located in Latehar district, Jharkhand, with four sub-critical generating units of 270 MW each, aggregating to an installed capacity of 1,080 MW and is being developed by Corporate Power Ltd, a Abhijeet Group subsidiary. Company is expecting the first unit of 270 MW will be commissioned by this year and project will be fully commissioned by April 2014.
