3,200 Residents Across 28 Villages Benefit from Free, Quality Healthcare Services
AHMEDABAD (India CSR): In a bid to extend the reach of essential healthcare services to remote regions, Sembcorp, under CSR, has teamed up with the Indian Social Development Association (ISDA) to roll out the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) project in Gujarat’s Bhuj district. Aiming at the underserved and the hard-to-reach, the MMU initiative has become a beacon of hope, especially for residents residing close to Sembcorp’s operations.
Making Healthcare Accessible in the Truest Sense
The Mobile Medical Units are more than just vehicles; they are mobile clinics designed to bridge the healthcare gap in far-flung regions. Outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, they are tailored to deliver both preventative and curative services, ensuring that residents receive comprehensive care without having to traverse large distances. What sets the MMUs apart is their integrated GPS systems, which facilitate real-time tracking, ensuring that they can safely navigate regions where traditional healthcare infrastructure is absent.
Till the present day, these mobile clinics have pitched their tents in 28 villages spanning two talukas. In these areas, they have not only provided free consultations but also dispensed medications for a range of ailments, from communicable diseases to chronic conditions. The success of the initiative is palpable, with 3,200 villagers, hailing from remote places such as Kokaliya and Dhokda, reaping its benefits.

One of the distinctive features of the MMUs is their adaptability. They don’t just cater to a generic demographic but tailor their services to the unique needs of every community they serve. From general health screenings to specialized consultations for women, children, and the elderly, these mobile clinics ensure that healthcare is not just accessible but also personalized.

Praise and Acknowledgment from the Ground Up
The project has elicited heartwarming responses from community leaders and members alike. Bhadai’s Sarpanch highlighted how the MMU initiative has lifted the financial burden off many villagers’ shoulders, offering them specialist consultations and medicines which, under normal circumstances, would have been beyond their financial reach.
In Gangapar, social workers have lauded the MMU’s responsiveness, underlining how the project has tuned into community-specific issues and rolled out apt solutions. It stands as a testament to what true collaborative philanthropy can achieve: not just offering services but fostering health consciousness amongst the most vulnerable.

Voices from the Ground
The impact of the MMU initiative is best captured in the words of those it serves. Nanjibhai Maheswari, Sarpanch of Modkuba village, voiced the gratitude of his community, appreciating the MMU for sparing them the lengthy journeys to clinics. Similarly, Shivdasbhai Patel from Gangapar underscored the MMU’s role in not just healthcare delivery but also in spearheading health awareness campaigns. Makani Arunaben’s testimony offers a glimpse into the MMU’s diverse services, from specialist women’s camps to various health-centric drives.
