NEW DELHI (India CSR): In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to social responsibility, Hindustan Zinc has announced its CSR spending for the financial year 2023-24. The company has gone beyond the mandated 2% CSR spending, allocating a substantial Rs 269.26 crore to various transformative programs. These initiatives have impacted 1.91 million individuals through community development initiatives encompassing health, water and sanitation, community asset creation, environment and safety, and the promotion of culture.

Unchi Udaan
Empowering Future Engineers
Unchi Udaan is an intensive training program designed to prepare students for JEE and other engineering entrance exams. In collaboration with Resonance Adventures Pvt. Ltd and Vidya Bhavan Society, the program has helped over 156 students in seven batches secure placements in IITs, NITs, and other top engineering institutes with a 100% success rate. Currently, Unchi Udaan supports more than 120 students, nurturing talent from economically backward families.

Zinc Football
Nurturing Football Talent
The Zinc Football Academy (ZFA) aims to harness the potential of Indian football. Vedanta Zinc Football & Sports Foundation ensures the Academy’s participation in national and international tournaments. ZFA’s goalkeeper Sahil Poonia and players Jangminthang Haokip and Ashish Mayla were selected for the India U-16 National Team Camp. The U-17 League Youth Cup saw ZFA boys reach the quarter-finals, winning all four games. Additionally, community school girls represented ZFA in the Khelo India U-17 Girls Football League, securing second position. Over 4,000 players are supported through a cluster-based approach, promoting team sports at local, block, and district levels.

Zinc Kaushal
Building Skills for Sustainable Livelihoods
The Zinc Kaushal project provides market-led, industry-oriented skill-based training for youth in the communities where Hindustan Zinc operates. Recognizing youth unemployment as a major concern, the program creates pipelines between industry and institutes to promote sustainable livelihood opportunities. Over 1831 youth across 200+ villages in six districts have benefitted from short-duration intensive training and entrepreneurship support.

Sakhi
Empowering Women through Microenterprises
The Sakhi program works towards the empowerment of women, making them financially and individually independent through federations, village organizations, self-help groups (SHGs), and microenterprises. Over 27,485 women have benefitted from Sakhi microenterprises. Twelve production units run by women engage 290 women in manufacturing and selling products such as pickles, spices, pulses, textiles, and food under successful brands like ‘Upaya’ and ‘Daichi’. To date, these women have generated a total income of over INR 33.37 lakhs.

Samadhan & Dairy Microenterprise
Sustainable Livelihoods
The Samadhan & Dairy Microenterprise initiative ensures sustainable livelihoods for families through integrated farming systems and livestock development in 184 villages. Over 30,430 farmer families across five districts have been impacted. The initiative has developed five independent FPOs with over 5,000 shareholders and established two microenterprises: a dairy unit and a mineral mixture unit. The ‘Gauam’ brand, developed for dairy microenterprises, contributed to an additional 47+ lakh litres of milk produced during the year, worth over 14 crore.

Khushi Nand Ghar
Enhancing Child Development Services
The Khushi Nand Ghar initiative covers 2,512 villages, strengthening the State Government’s integrated child development services (ICDS) program in 3,145 Anganwadi Centres (AWCs). Over 41,000 pregnant women and lactating mothers have benefitted from this program, which includes awareness sessions on breastfeeding, nutrition, pre-natal and post-natal care. The program has undertaken 3,63,930 household visits and 1,756 community meetings.

Shiksha Samabal
Enhancing Educational Opportunities
The Shiksha Samabal initiative aims to strengthen the learning environment in government schools, focusing on Science, English, and Mathematics. The program has covered over 8,110 students with more than 37,000 regular and after-school classes conducted for grades 9 and 10.

Water & Healthcare
Improving Access to Essential Services
Hindustan Zinc’s water and healthcare initiatives have impacted over 229,000 people, ensuring the availability of potable drinking water through 51 ROs and ATM plants established across 47 villages. The company also supplied water through tankers to 34 villages. In healthcare, over 93,000 patients were treated, and participants covered through health awareness sessions organized across 179 villages. The company conducted over 190 health awareness sessions during significant health observance days.
