MUMBAI: A wonderful science education journey has begun from the rural area of Katni. ACC Trust with its CSR implementing partner STEM Learning is reaching out to rural and remote communities to encourage STEM education in Madhya Pradesh.
ACC Trust is a part of ACC Limited, a leading cement company.
Katni (also known as Murwara (Katni) is a town on the banks of the Katni River in Madhya Pradesh. It is 90 kilometers away from Jabalpur’s main city.
With the support of ACC under their CSR Initiative, STEM Learning has set up Mini Science Centre, in the Govt. High School, Amuwari Kharkhari, Katni.
The inauguration ceremony was held on 2 September 2021 in Govt. High School Katini.
Manoj Sharma, Director of ACC, and Prithvi Pal Singh, Katni District Education Officer, as well as 4 teachers and 30 students, were present during the inauguration of the mini science centre.
Following the inauguration, all the guests visited the Mini Science Center and Manoj Sharma praised the Science and Math exhibits and suggested that a chemistry model be included also in the Mini Science Centre.
Prithvi Pal Singh also liked the concept of Mini–Science Centre event to be held year-round. When students enter the Mini Science Center, they quickly pick up the exhibits and start exploring. They seem to be more curious.
The concept of Mini Science Centres is developed by Stem Learning Pvt Ltd, a leading social enterprise in science education in India.
The objective of this initiative is to strengthen the school in STEM education so that the children can make best use of it for their academic development.
Also speaking on the occasion District Education Officer lauded this initiative of the company and said that ACC is taking proactive initiatives for the development of the schools in the region and advised the students and the teachers to make the best use of it.
It is worth mentioning that the new education policy (NEP 2020) also recognised that skills like coding and scientific temper and evidence-based thinking should be learned by all students to become good, successful, innovative, adaptable, and productive human beings in today’s rapidly changing world.
