It’s that time of year once again when the mercury starts to rise, the shirts are coming off, and the BBQs are lighting up. Of course, for many of us, summer is the most anticipated time of the year, and many more of us are happy to see the rear-end of the cold, dark winters.

However, one of the most important factors to a happy summer is making sure your cooler systems, which refers to your vents, HVAC system, and other air conditioning units, are well looked after. You’ve probably got some idea on how to look after it, but to ensure you don’t run into any problems this year, today we’re debunking five of the top myths.

1 – It’s Fine

Easily one of the most common myths that people believe is your air conditioning is fine at all times. It’s installed, it’s working, what more do you need to do?  The truth is, there’s a lot of moving parts when it comes to air conditioning units, all of which require some degree of maintenance to keep working correctly.

Maintenance is key. Don’t ignore it.

2 – Debris? What Debris?

Of course, all air conditioning units have filters in place to stop debris getting into the system from the outside world, but that doesn’t mean these filters are 100% effective. You need to make sure you’re vacuuming the inside of your units to clear out any leaves or dirt that may be building up inside.

This is so important for maintenance, as well as making sure your belongings are protected. If you have any of your home furniture on rent, dirt and grime in your air can ruin these pieces.

3 – A Bit of Damage is OK

Why anyone would believe this is beyond us. If you look at any aspect of your air conditioning unit, such as the coil fins, if these are bent or out of place (which they tend to do over time naturally), you’ll going to be using a lot more power, and the unit won’t work correctly.

If something’s wrong, get it fixed quickly to avoid problems.

4 – It Will Keep Working. It Always Does

The thing with air conditioning is it’s one of those things many of us tend not to think about often. It’s there. We use it. That’s all there is to it. However, without maintenance and but ignoring its existence, you’re going to be left with a lot of problems.

Once summer is in full swing, your AC cooler unit will be on a lot of the time, and if it breaks, you’re going to be extremely uncomfortable, and this will have a knock-on effect to many other aspects of your life. Don’t worry; if your unit breaks, you can always get a temporary cooler on rent until you get yours fixed.

5 – I’ll Do It Myself

As you can tell from some of the points above, a lot of the maintenance on your cooler unit can be done yourself, and there’s no problem with that. However, if you don’t know what you’re doing, you don’t want to make things worse.

If you’re unsure, always enlist the help of a professional, qualified maintenance service. There’s no point in risking it and causing more damage.

Summary

As you can see, there are several things you’re going to want to think about when it comes to making sure your air conditioner cooler unit is working to its full potential. Be mindful of your unit; look after it properly, and it will look after you.
