NEW DELHI: India enrolls about 59 percent of total students in Government schools at the primary level. Such large-scale dependence of the country’s younger generation, for the right academic foundation puts a huge responsibility on the state and its schools. Several studies and researches have proved that school infrastructure can hugely impact the mental and physical well-being of students.

Hence, the task of shaping the future of the students in their formative years calls for a sound learning environment that can not only enhance academic performance but also motivate attendance.

Supporting the need for building a positive school environment, Çelebi Aviation, a global leader in ground-handling and cargo services, has taken the onus of giving a facelift to Government schools, by adopting them and filling the infrastructural gap. Identifying a huge scope of improvement in the facilities being offered at the Government Senior Secondary School, located in Basai village (Gurugram), the company chose the school as the first under its project. Through an investment of approximately Rs 34 lakhs, the entire school has completely been refurbished.

Under the initiative, Çelebi has changed the look of about 30 classrooms in the school, by way of painting them, installing black boards, adding student benches, chairs for teachers etc. While new computers have been installed in the computer lab to enable the students with exposure to modern day teaching techniques, the science lab has been given a complete makeover with increased equipment and repaired floors and shelves.

Additionally, all the electronic fittings have been replaced and the classrooms have been supplied with new tube lights and ceiling fans, all of which were either missing or non-functional. Keeping in mind the need for an undisrupted electricity supply for a sound and peaceful learning environment, Çelebi has also commissioned a silent genset at the school.

India CSRIn line with the Government’s Swachh Bharat Mission and to ensure proper hygiene and sanitation facilities to the students, especially girls, the company has also renovated the school toilets. Additionally, the installation of RO purifiers by the company has ensured clean drinking water at the school premises.

With the revitalization that was identified to have positively impacted 1100 students at the school, Çelebi has put its first step forward in its journey of building a progressive nation. Through its endeavor of contributing to providing an apt learning environment, the company will focus on continuing to re-kindle the lives of millions of students belonging to the lower-income societies.

Celebi has also been carrying out CSR activities with the GMR Varalaxmi Foundation and has been making contributions to the Prime Minister Relief Fund and the Indian Cancer Society.
