BT India@100: ‘India has not lost the AI race,’ says Amitabh Kant, highlights the country’s biggest advantage

Amitabh Kant said global talent is coming from the US to India to work with startups and GCCs. BT India@100: Unlike what many might say or believe, India has not lost the artificial intelligence (AI) race, said former G20 Sherpa and former CEO of NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant. He said India is the next big destination, when it comes to AI, and the reason is simple: India’s human resource. Kant was speaking at the Business Today India@100 in the session titled ‘The Future of Make in India’. He said while various components like chips and lithography machines come from various other countries, India is a major provider of the data.

On blocking online content, Krishnan said that government-ordered content removals are only one part of the overall takedown, as the majority of content removals happen from the social media front. Recently, social media platforms like Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms have created concerns over their impact on users. However, S Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, states that the concerns and anxieties are not India-specific. He highlighted that “every major democracy in the world” is facing similar challenges.

Government pushes components and semiconductors as the next phase of India’s electronics manufacturing story. India is targeting 35-40% domestic value addition in mobile phone manufacturing, up from the current 22-23%, as the government looks to deepen the electronics supply chain and give India a larger role in global manufacturing, S Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), said on Friday.

From making Bengal the growth engine to huge debts and land reforms, West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta explains the state’s new development agenda.

Hoping to make West Bengal the country’s growth engine once again, West Bengal’s Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta said the state government is looking to rationalise land laws and provide a better business environment. He announced that the state is exploring options for deregulation and leveraging dead assets to handle public debt.
