Over the past ten years, she has spearheaded both the online and brick-and-mortar operations of Reliance Retail, India's premier retailer in terms of revenue, profit, reach, and scale, with a diversified presence across grocery, consumer electronics, and fashion retail sectors.

Under Isha Ambani guidance, Reliance Retail has achieved the distinction of being the sole Indian retailer to make it to the list of top 100 global retailers.

Isha M. Ambani (31 Years as of 2023) is a Whole-time Director designated as Executive Director of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, India’s largest retailer by reach, scale, revenue and profitability. She is also part of the executive leadership teams at Reliance Jio, the world’s largest mobile data network, and Reliance Foundation, one of the largest private foundations in India. She has been instrumental in launching and expanding various businesses and initiatives in the fields of retail, telecommunications, education, art and culture. She is a graduate of Yale University and Stanford University and has received several accolades for her achievements and contributions.

Early Life and Education

Isha M. Ambani was born on October 23, 1991 in Mumbai, India. She is the daughter of Mukesh D. Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, the largest corporate house in India, and Nita M. Ambani, the Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation. She has two brothers, Akash M. Ambani and Anant M. Ambani, who are also involved in the family business.

Isha M. Ambani completed her schooling from Dhirubhai Ambani International School, a premier educational institution in Mumbai. She then pursued her undergraduate studies at Yale University in the United States, where she graduated with a double major in Psychology and South Asian Studies in 2013. She also studied at Stanford University for her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, which she completed in 2018.

Career and Achievements

Isha M. Ambani joined Reliance Industries Limited in 2014 as a Director on the Board of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited and Jio Platforms Limited, the subsidiaries that operate the Jio network. She played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and launching Jio in India in 2016, which revolutionized the telecommunications sector by offering affordable and high-speed data services to millions of customers. She also led the development of various digital platforms and applications under the Jio umbrella, such as JioMart, JioSaavn, JioCinema, JioTV and JioMeet.

In 2019, Isha M. Ambani was appointed as a Whole-time Director designated as Executive Director of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, the holding company of Reliance Retail Limited and its subsidiaries. She is driving the expansion of Reliance Retail into new categories, geographies and formats and is focused on enhancing the overall customer experience. Reliance Retail has its presence in food, consumer electronics and fashion retail and operates over 12,000 stores across India.

Philanthropic and Social Work

Isha M. Ambani is also actively involved in spearheading the work done by Reliance Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Reliance Industries Limited. She is on the Board of Trustees of Reliance Foundation Institution of Education and Research, which aims to provide world-class education to students across India. She is also passionate about education and anchors the Reliance Foundation’s work with children and women.

Passion for Art and Culture

An art enthusiast, Isha M. Ambani leads all the art and culture initiatives undertaken by Reliance Foundation in India and internationally. She is on the Advisory Board of the Yale Schwarzman Center, a cultural hub at Yale University that fosters creativity and collaboration among students and faculty. She is also on the Board of Trustees of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art in Washington D.C., which showcases the artistic heritage of Asia. She supports various art festivals and exhibitions in India, such as Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival and Kochi-Muziris Biennale. She is also a patron of the Dia Art Foundation in New York, which preserves and promotes contemporary art.

  • Featured in ET 40 Under Forty 2023, a list of India’s most influential business leaders under the age of 40 by The Economic Times.
  • Named among Forbes Asia’s Power Businesswomen 2022, a list of 25 women who are making an impact in their respective fields across Asia.
  • Honored with the Young Achiever Award 2021 by The Indian Express Group for her outstanding performance in launching and scaling up Jio.
  • Awarded with the Global Leadership Award 2020 by Asia Society for her visionary leadership in transforming India’s digital landscape.
  • Recognized as one of the World’s Most Powerful Women 2019 by Forbes Magazine for her role in shaping India’s retail sector.

Personal Life

Isha M. Ambani is married to Anand Piramal, the Executive Director of Piramal Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests in pharmaceuticals, real estate, financial services and healthcare analytics. They tied the knot in December 2018 in a lavish ceremony in Mumbai, attended by celebrities, politicians and business tycoons from India and abroad. They have a daughter, Arya Piramal, who was born in 2020.

Isha M. Ambani is known for her elegant and sophisticated style and is often seen wearing outfits by renowned designers such as Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Valentino. Salary and Net Worth

As per the latest annual report of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, Isha M. Ambani shall be paid remuneration not exceeding Rs 6 crore p.a., in FY 2022-23, subject to the provisions of the Act, which includes salary, perquisites and allowances. The perquisites and allowances shall be evaluated, wherever applicable, as per the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961 or any rules thereunder or any statutory modification(s) or re-enactment thereof; in the absence of any such rules, perquisites and allowances shall be evaluated at actual cost.

Isha M. Ambani shall also be entitled to annual increment as may be determined by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Board during her tenure and this shall be in addition to remuneration as stated above.

As per Forbes Magazine, Isha M. Ambani has an estimated net worth of $1.5 billion as of 2023, making her one of the richest women in India. She owns a stake in Reliance Industries Limited, which is valued at over $200 billion as of 2023. She also owns several properties in India and abroad, including a sea-facing mansion in Mumbai worth Rs 450 crore, a bungalow in New Delhi worth Rs 150 crore, a penthouse in Worli worth Rs 100 crore and a villa in London worth Rs 80 crore.
